Sri Lanka 184 & 112/3 (49.0 ov)

England 377/8d

Poms lead by 81 - 1 day to play

They should make a rule where on the 5 day of any test match play is mandatory, rain, hail or shine

A prolific series from Mahela, 103 runs from 6 innings

Maybe using the IPL as your warm up wasn't such a good idea champ?

well what do you expect from one of the biggest flat track bullies of all-time. If he's not batting in Galle or Colombo, he's about as good as Boeta Dippenaar.

I just looked up his record because I was going to defend him but I found that ....

22 of his 28 Test tons have come in Asia

Hmmm

Match over. Very disappointing draw, apparently 369 overs have been lost to rain in the series:crazy:. On the plus side, Cricinfo gave me a funny in the wait for the inevitable.

Pretty sure this is it for the series. Ending where it begun, as a damp squib. What would be a shame, if they don't get back out, is Samaraweera not getting a chance to make his first Test hundred in England. Meanwhile, for all of you who thought Sangakkara was cool, here is an alarming video. Thanks to La Sigh for sharing that. Actually I'm really annoyed I saw that.

Watching Sanga smoking his drives along the carpet last night made me feel like heading to the nets!

I hate draws which are the result of lost play. I don't see a solution, I just always hope for a result in such situation.

A match should only be a draw when it deserves to be one *sigh*.

I saw this last night and I just couldn't help thinking how ridiculous it was.

Sri Lanka fined for slow over-rate
ESPNcricinfo staff
June 21, 2011
Sri Lanka have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during the third Test against England, at the Rose Bowl. There had been significant rain delays during the game but even after allowances for interruptions were taken into consideration, Sri Lanka were found to be two overs short of the number they should have bowled. They bowled 92.4 overs in 435 minutes of game time.

Under ICC regulations, Kumar Sangakkara, who was stand-in captain for the Test in Tillakaratne Dilshan's absence, will be docked 40% of his match-fees while the rest of the players will be fined 20%.

This is a really annoying thing to discover after a test like that one. As if a fine is an appropriate punishment. I think the ICC needs to come up with a punishment which has an equal and opposite affect on the game as the overs which are lost as a result of slow over rates, to be a proper disincentive. Everyone has slow over rates nowadays and less than 15 overs in any full hour of cricket should be unacceptable and the ICC should do something to ensure that doesn't happen.

If Dilshan doesn't recover in time for the 1st ODI, does that mean Kandamby captains? He's the VC but he also hasn't played international cricket for a year so it'd be quite an ask...

I didn't think it was worth making a new thread for, so I decided to just add it to this one.

Only T20I tonight and Malinga is playing! His hair is all one colour, but still good to watch.

Also Stuart Broad's captaincy debut tonight.
