Guptill doesn't seem to have it. Averages 235 vs. Bangladesh and 53 vs. Zimbabwe. Next best is 27 vs. Pakistan and it gets progressively bleaker from there.
All at sea vs. quality opposition. Flynn looked good in patches but was still a bit suspect.
BJ Watling could be an option when fit?
I also fear for the career of Williamson. Cannot recover when you're in a tailspin at 3 for not many. No mental strength.
I think Ronchi will walk straight in next January, his batting is a cut above most of your specialists.
Agree on Guptill...bully of bad attacks, but beyond that has flattered to deceive - still has done nothing in first class cricket.
Flynn's been through a tough time, with form them injury... now piling on the runs, but at 5... so worry about him opening... but he's a gritty bugger.
Not sure why you'd say that about Williamson... he came in at 7/3 and scored 77 out of 168 or so against clearly the best attack in the world... why would you say he has no mental strength? The kid's a class act...
We'll see on Ronchi, you lot think everyone in domestic Australian cricket is a genius... Phil Hughes and Steve Smith spring to mind, sorry but the days of your domestic cricket being a cut above most international cricket are long gone, there are a lot of ordinary players there... Ronchi will have to prove himself, and he may well... but like you would be, I 'm concerned about his motivation, but they've selected a few Seth Effrikan numpties in recent times, so an Australian numpty is much better
