PNG is all but confirmed, with the positive outcome from Friday's meeting. The NRL has mapped out a plan for 20 teams in the coming years. That means two new clubs after PNG. Problem is there's already four active bids. Which two get in?!

East tigers - existing setup like dolphins. Cash rich & tv wants more se Qld teams. Drawback is tigers name in use.

2 x NZ south island - potential sky tv deal. Great stadium & opportunities for player pathways. Seperate bids may need to work together

North Bears - engages dormant northern Sydney catchment. Club is rich with good IP. A negative is moving operations to rusted on AFL city.

I have a feeling more bids emerge in coming weeks including potentially Melbourne 2, Fiji or another Brisbane entrant.

It will be better to spend a few million improving the local competitions and pathways to the NRL. PNG is decades away from being able to field a team in the NRL.
