I make no comment as to whether his form warranted selection, but the reality is that NZ sides without Vatuvei always lack size and punch in the backs and this one is no different. We are going to have trouble getting on the front foot early in our sets and matching the damaging ball-carriers that Australia in particular invariably field out wide.
Begins with R, ends with apana.

Is Gallen injured, retired from rep footy, or just not selected?

Also struggling to recall the last time the CC Medal winner wasn't then named in the squad (besides the sparkly eyed man, of course).

That Kangaroos squad is more than good enough to win the series. As always you can make strong cases for other players who missed out but you can't fit them all in. Shouldn't be any excuses if they don't win.

Surely Leilua must be injured. A bit suprised by Shannon Boyd an shocked they picked o'Neill. Still a very good team however in my opinion New Zealand have named a better team

Boyd is the best fullback for Australia period. Boyd was extremely influential in SOO this season. Who else are you picking there?

Decent squad. Some players unlucky but good to see some youngsters in there. Good enough to win the 4 nations.

Based on that squad, the first 17 could be:

Boyd
Mansour
Inglis
O'Neill
Ferguson
Thurston
Cronk
Woods
Smith (c)
Scott
Gillett
Papali
Cordner

Thaiday
Morgan
Klemmer
Boyd/Merrin

I said last year that Shannon Boyd was a better young prop than Klemmer and was laughed at. He's proved me right this year, and thoroughly deserves his selection. NSW need him next year. They made a massive mistake leaving him out this year.

Some good selections for NZ. I'm happy with Tapine, Rapana & Te Maire Martin getting picked. I was hoping we'd select Junior Paulo as well, and tbh Corey Norman should be playing for NZ. He's maori as f*ck.

It's good to see JWH back too. We're a bit light on for centres with Whare & Hiku out. Kahu's a bum, hopefully Kata takes his spot.

We should've picked Ponga at fullback irregardless of his lack of experience. Hopefully Rapana gets a run there, cos I doubt Fusitua's up to it.

Australia have picked some bums too in Ferguson, Dugan, Friend and Cordner. Hopefully Dugan and Ferguson get picked again in Perth. They're out of their depth at test level.
