I reckon they'll get closer to the Kiwis and English on reflection. Reckon they were caught very cold in that opening 25

Hopefully Scotland will be better for the run. They should learn a bit from it. Hopefully.

Not a great look to start the tournament. A one sided affair in front of a pitiful crowd, wasn't the highest standard match either. Still enjoyed it and I'm glad that Scotland managed to keep things from really blowing out. I thought at the start that if they could keep the score to 30-40 points down that would be a pass. They might improve as the tournament goes on.

Still I feel it's a mistake starting the tournament with what will most likely be the worst and least interesting match and smallest crowd of the tournament.

I'm glad I got up early to watch this game. Despite the lopsided score-line it was an entertaining affair and it was good to see the Scots have a real dig

Yep.

Also, did any tries go to the video ref?

I don't remember any. Was so good seeing the ref backing himself.

So why did they play at Hull. Apart from Hull having an appetite for RL, is there any special affinity to the Scots there?

I can't imagine a 5.3k crowd at east Hull is a huge money spinner for the tournament. I'd prefer they play in front of 2k to 3k actually in Scotland. At least there could be some people in that crowd who could become new fans rather than diehards in Hull who are already rusted on fans.

It makes no sense playing the game in hull, Scotland is only a few hundred km's or less than an hours flight away. Ridiculous decision.

Although it was much closer to about half of the players birthplaces :)

Still it should have been in Glasgow.

I thought it was a pretty good showing from the Scots. There's nonsense from some media outlets suggesting that they were "smashed", which tells me that some folks only looked at the full time score, or highlights, or turned off after 20 minutes.

IMO, Scotland showed a lot of fight.

They were simply outclassed by a bigger and faster team that were able to step up when required. Scotland still held Australia for a good 40-50 minutes.
