Anyway yeah it was a cracking game. Low scoring in shocking conditions without ever really being what I'd call "dour".

Scotland need to do some real work off the back of this though. Get more Rugby League played in Scotland, get fans at home to take notice of what they're achieving, and properly host test matches rather than sort-of-but-not-really nearby in Cumbria and Hull.

You can't get much more next door to Scotland than Cumbria. Although I do think they should have played at least one game in Scotland.
There would have been more Kiwis/Aussies in Glasgow or Edinburgh than hull or Workington

Point is there's no reason for it to be next door rather than inside Scotland

What a game, great effort by the scots.

But none of this matters if we don't follow up on it. It is ridiculous Scotland didn't play at least one game in Scotland during this four nations, it is even more ridiculous if nothing changes up there in the future. What are the plans for Scottish rugby league, both domestically and internationally? The 2013 wc wasn't really built on, will we learn?

For all the talk, the heritage players did put in for Scotland so good luck to them.

I just looked at Scottish news sites and could find no mention of the game. Until national teams are filled by nationals playing in domestic comps we are whistling Dixie, unfortunately.

I agree but the bid to host was for England. It's not unreasonable to expect a tournament to be held in one country.

Yeah after some of the ideas that have been raised on here recently, and thinking about it more, I've kind of gone off the idea of countries hosting tournaments between World Cups for the future. No 'neutral' games would be far preferable.

Even the proposed 8 Nation Intercontinental Cup I now think would function better as a home-away series of some kind, rather than a hosted tournament.

How does that work if your going to play a series of games together. With the 8 nation idea people could argue it's biased if your play the perceived weaker teams after you've played the hard ones. Say Aus play Kiwis and the Islands then head to Europe for a few weeks off flogging France, Scotland and Ireland before playing England in the final game.

Prior to 1995 we hardly played tournaments though really. There were World Cups between 1954 and 1975 but then nothing until 1995. And before 1975 you could argue France would have been worthy of being part of a big four (there weren't really any other countries playing anyway).

If you count tests that were part of the 1988 and 1992 World Cups then PNG beating GB in 1990 would be one. But it wasn't really a tournament.

France beat England in the 1981 European Championship, which was sort of a tournament. But that was at a time when GB was the test team so it depends on whether England counts in that case.

Probably a discussion for another thread... which I have now created
