Ashes lost yet again, however the goal now is to level the series

Probably an unchanged line up. Id possibly look to drop Lyon and bring in either Agar or Bird

Kick off this Friday 8.00pm AET

selections will depend on the pitch

poms will probably bring Onios back in for Bresnan

I know everyone will say we need a spinner but 1 wicket on that turner is pathetic from Lyon and Agar is worse, we got enough part timers for variation if we need them

Agar is plainly not ready.

Lyon bowled pretty well without much luck.

Pitch is irrelevant, see your last sentence

we pick our 4 best bowlers, which will be all pacemen

Smith, Warner and Clark can roll the arm over, they are as good, if not better than Lyon.

Id pick Agar soley to gain some experience if the deck looks like a turner

Bird can come in for Starc

Spinner is a bit of a cripple fight. I dont think Lyon bowled too badly but he doesn't build enough pressure on the batsman but neither does Agar yet.

Does Smith have more wickets then either Lyon or Agar?

That's my team Unit.

However, they will pick Starkers over Bird because he's a left hander :blahb: and adds variety :blahb: and can be an X factor :blahb: and is useful with the bat :blahb:

you're right and its absolutely f**ked.

Bird needs to play the last two test and needs to be strongly considered for all 5 tests back home.

I agree Bird should be in for Starcy next test. As for the spinner why pick 4 quicks when we already have Watson??? As bad as his batting has been he has bowled well all series and with a bit of luck could of had at least 4 more wickets. And he is our most economical bowler. I'd give Lyon another game and keep the top 6 as is, maybe tweek the order.

I wouldn't change the line up..

That was our best performance this series, so if it 'aint broke..

I'd consider swapping Watto & Mr Teeny around in the batting order though..

Yeah Twatto has been very economical and taken the odd important wicket. A spinner has to play and the selectors have two tests to decide who will be the spinner in the next series. If they think Agar is the future then play him, if they're going to persist with Lyon than its him.

Ashes Report Card: who starred and who stank for Australia in the third Test from Old Trafford..

Malcolm Conn in Manchester News Limited Network August 06, 2013 12:20PM

Shane Watson: 4 - Bowled well at times to create pressure but is yet to make a significant impact in this series with bat or ball.

Chris Rogers: 7 - Set Australia on the road to early domination with a sparkling 84, his highest Test score, to cement his place.

Usman Khawaja: 3 - Desperately unlucky in the first innings and chasing runs in the second. Needs a decent score.

Michael Clarke: 9 - Once again Australia’s backbone with 187, his first century batting at number four.

Steve Smith: 7 - Played an important innings in a double century partnership with Clarke to take the game away from England.

David Warner: 4 - Looked better at the top of the order opening the batting in the second innings. Adds vibrancy in the field.

Brad Haddin: 6 - Excellent Test with bat and gloves after a poor Test at Lord’s. Led from the front as a vice-captain should.

Peter Siddle: 7 - Another excellent Test with the ball and looked set to help bowl Australia to victory before the rain.

Mitchell Starc: 6 - A solid Test with the ball and fine match with the bat. Will be a star if he can find consistency with both.

Ryan Harris: 7 - Another outstanding performance opening the bowling. Knocked the top off England’s order in the second innings.

Nathan Lyon: 2 - Disappointing Test after a good start. Must make an impact to keep Fawad Ahmed out of the team this summer.

Bit harsh on Oozie, not his fault he got the worst decision in the series so far.
