Nasser Hussain comes from the Ian Chappell school of commentary. Make statement. Elaborate. Repeat statement. Warnie does it too.

Bit like Jonathan Agnew comes from the same school commentating as Mark Nicholas. Make a point...babble on about bs. Other commentator says a word. Continue to babble the rest of the over.

By including jackson bird, the australian tail is nowhere as strong as the batting lineup for the first 2 test matches

James pattinson (at 11) is a virtual allrounder compared to bird and lyon

Having said all that, 238 is a middle of the road kind of score for England to defend. Alistair cook scratched around for 30 overs to not score much

And this is a dead rubber, so you might have to wonder about Australia's application in this test match (ie smashed inside 3 days in the 4th test against india in the previous subcontinental series when australia had nothing to play for

Damn shame that the selectors wasted 4 or 5 years screwing around with useless Phil Hughes instead of just putting Rogers in. Rogers would have been 30 and could have had a good 6 or 7 years like Hussey.

Definitely our weakest tail but high time the batsmen started earning their keep.

Apart from Clark all the batsmen are batting for their international careers.

First Test in Brisbane could be a very different team.

Current top 6 is more or less the best we have really. No point making wholesale changes between now and Brisbane. Khawaja is the only one in much danger but still can't see there's anyone better to replace even him.

Someone will do a big show in the ODI series we have in India before the home ashes and get rushed in to the squad. Maybe Big Show himself will pull out all the toys and be back where he belongs in the baggy green after a stellar 14* and 1/45.

Hopfully a few batsmen can score some runs domestically to at least put pressure on. Agree the only player under immediate pressure is Uzi. Haddin would be safe. Watson while he bowls is fairly safe. Warner could be under pressure if he doesnt score.

But who comes in? The cupboard is bare

I know. But you can't keep rewarding failure especially when Khawaja, Watson, Warner have had extended opportunities.

There are 14 Shield games before the first test in Brisbane. I'd be saying all batsmen have an opportunity to impress for a place for 5 tests in the Ashes team.
