Taylor is a gun, and great to watch, potentially your best bat since Crowe. Don't know why anyone would want him dropped.

An average of 40 isn't luck but you keep having a go at the batsman that's holding up our top order and has been doing so for a while now.

He`s a very talented batsman, I`ve never wanted him dropped from the one day team. But he could be much better, and needs to be because our batting line-up is poor.

It`s the test team that I wanted him dropped from, when he was getting out to ridiculous shots.

For christ's sake...when will they learn that Hilfy is too inconsistent two bowl at the death? Get him bowled out by the 35th, when he can still actually get something out of the ball and can get away with length

I really struggle with your criticism. Since the start of the West Indian series he's basically pulled the reigns in. He's played some very restrained innings through the middle of the batting performance, often after not always the best start. Even when he had a great start in Auckland against the West Indians, he played a crafty innings. The only thing he lacked at times was street smarts. I put it down to over-confidence, being the big fish in a small pond. At the moment he's playing some mature innings for us. I wonder for him of the impact of Andy Moles, one of Moles' big sayings around ND was the first 18 balls for a batsman are crucial. His feeling was unless it's at the death, you take your time in this period and play smart cricket, and he's off the belief that generally your run rate will pick up the longer you are at the crease. Almost an old school approach. I don't know if that was always the case for a batsman like Taylor, but his starts to innings have been more careful I feel and maybe that is the underlying secret to a string of good innings at crucial times.

That said, at the moment I'm gaining a lot of respect for Grant Elliott. I was fortunate enough to be at the SCG and his innings was one of the best I've had the privilege to see.

Great to see Peter Siddle taking the donation bucket around the ground.

He's from the affected area and he just mentioned that his brother lost some mates in the bushfire.

Oh joy. Johnson bowls a leisurely half tracker and it's time for a new ball....

EDIT-ADD strikes, was Johnson

Tremendous shot. I don't understand the over use of the short ball at this time with a ground with such short square boundaries. They've gifted New Zealand an extra 20 runs in the last 10 overs by an over use of the short ball IMO.

you dont even need to open your eyes to belt Sh*thaus out of the park

reminds me of Oliver McCall's KO of Lennox Lewis. he had his eyes closed when he threw the KO punch

Good innings by Taylor. Without his innings this would be looking decidedly woeful. At least it's ramped up to below average, not woeful.

Look Iafeta, I totally agree that Taylor has been batting with more maturity recently, and it shows in his one day stats. But I commented on a poor piece of technique when he tried to hook a head-high bouncer off his front foot. He does have that weakness in his game, always looks to go forward, without picking up the length of the ball. And when you do that, it is very hard to be in control of the horizontal shot.

He's not the only bat who's hooked off the front foot. Matt Hayden is one who did it a fair bit.

He's still a work in progress for mine, the step up from first club to international level is huge. That said, at ODI level he's averaging 40 odd. He's got some work to do at test level, but I suspect the Moles ideology about getting in is going to help him out here also. Moreover, I'm just happy that we're seeing a good lot of cricketers starting to come through - Taylor, Ryder, Guptill, Elliott, and another bloke I think has a lot of ticker, Neil Broom. It'd be nice to get one more terrific bowler coming through, having said that I'm happy with the development of Iain O'Brien of late, even though he is at a more mature age by NZ standards.
