Couple of dead rubbers coming up

Australia might experiment a little...like batting first :p

I would think possibly Smith may be rested, though I think he said he wants to play everything. Hopefully Khawaja gets a run. Warner might be back too, though id give him this time off with his young family before the NZ tour

Any LU members going to this game? I might see on the day If I can make the trek down

You'd have to imagine Darsh and Boland would drop out there, but I suspect Richardson will be the likely victim.

I dont get that, I thought Oozie did enough in the Big Wank to at least warrant a go.

I can understand Lyon being added as we dont have much variation but its been working. The Indians seem to fancy Lyon but unfortunately there really are not too many other options.

Kind of stupid to select Uzi in the squad and then not give him a run at all given the form he is in across all formats.

Paris has injured himself hasn't he?

Surely after his ODI appearances he's stressed a fingernail and CA are putting him in cotton wool until his 27th birthday or the 2019 World Cup, whichever comes first.

And the selection of Uzi was just bastardry. They took Stars and Scorchers players and Junior must have thought he needed to look impartial and take a key Thunder player out too.

f**k me.

I can't begin to imagine the utter carnage heaped upon India if a fit Starc & Cummins, and Hazlewood, Pattinson and Lyon were the bowling attack. Surely Siddle is a better option than Boreland too?

Paris has been released back to his BBL club, on that basis you would think he is fit.

Such nonsense

Boland has flatout stunk. He is averaging 200 Ffs. I suppose because he is a selector "hunch" he will be given a massive go.

It's OK to be wrong selectors. I've been wrong plenty. I understand that mark Waugh liked how he looked in a shield game but its clear he isn't up to international standard. I just hope when the Indians belt him around next two odis we can move on.

All you have to do is listen to Waugh commentate - he has an alarming lack of knowledge about players in domestic cricket.

If he's representative of the four of them no wonder we're getting shockers like this.

This is the problem.
It's like he is being selected continuously until he has a half decent game so the selectors can say they were justified in picking him. I can't see him ever having a half-decent game though. He'd be lucky to reach the lofty heights of mediocrity.

It is quite obvious Junior has absolutely no idea.

Hell, even Gilchrist and Fleming seem to ask him leading questions to get an answer out of him and he's got nothing.

I'm not saying Boland shouldn't have given a go, but one, maybe two ODIs later they should have tapped him and said 'thanks but no thanks'. I've said it earlier, but Siddle would be a better pick over Boland. Hell, there are at least 20 bowlers better.

It doesn't say much for the selectors when a bloke like Wade - who can't take the ball cleanly (did anyone see the death glares he did 2 or 3 times on Friday to fielders throwing it in and he couldn't take it cleanly because he's useless?!?!?!) - gets in ahead of Nevil, tells you something is wrong with selection criteria.

And yes, sure there are differences between T20 and ODI and Test but seriously some of the Test guys who get overlooked here like Nevil, Lyon, Burns and Khawaja...I just can't figure it out.

15 years ago, we had an abundance of riches and a generation of guns, unfortunately not all could make Tests so they shoehorned them in to the ODI side in the two-team policy. I think we should be moving on again.

That said, WTF do I know? We've just won 3 ODIs chasing big scores. IF the bowling was not Aust Z, we'd have been chasing 200.

Sorry I'm going to crap on about a topic that has been mentioned ad nauseum on this forum, but it needs to be said again that the pitches so far in this bilateral series have been absolutely pedestrian.

Would love to see either the Canberra or SCG pitch have even just a slight tinge of green (like the day/night Adelaide test). Sick and tired of all these 290+ 1st innings scores where batsmen can score with consummate ease and the likes of Sharma and Kohli's batting averages get inflated. I miss pitches such as these:

Which is disappointing, as at the time, I must admit that I thought Junior would make a good selector. But yeah, it looks like he doesn't watch much state cricket

I've already made me feelings clear many times about Boland's selection, so all I can going to say is....this, this and THIS!

And it's a travesty that Paris was omitted yesterday in favour of him.

I personally think the selectors feel sorry for Wade.

Remember, Haddin was woefully out of form with bat and gloves when Wade replaced him during the time Haddin's daughter got cancer. Wade came under a lot of criticism (especially from Ian Healy in the media) during the 2012/13 summer and Haddin made his way back into the test team and displaced Wade just before the 2013 Ashes. Somewhere down the line between the 2013 Ashes and last years Ashes series, I feel the selectors may have either directly said or hinted to Wade that he would be Haddin's replacement when Haddin retired...that was, until Nevil burst onto the scene, made last years Ashes squad as backup wicketkeeper and like a thief in the night, made the most of his opportunity in the Lord's test when he replaced Haddin. Bottom line, the selectors weren't expecting Nevill to have made the impact he did in that series, and as a result, ODI selection has been Wade's consolation prize. Unless he gets an injury (like Tim Paine a few years ago when he was being hyped in the media), I don't see Wade getting dumped anytime soon from the ODI squad.

And yes, sure there are differences between T20 and ODI and Test but seriously some of the Test guys who get overlooked here like Nevil, Lyon, Burns and Khawaja...I just can't figure it out.

Make no mistake, I was no fan of Trevor Hohns and still think making the Waugh brothers (especially Steve) the scapegoat of Australia missing the 2001/02 ODI tri-series finals was one of the biggest blunders the Aussie selectors have made (up there with dumping Hussey from the ODI squad after his test retirement). But since Hohns left, and the likes of Hilditch/Inverarity took the reigns, there's been so many laughable selections and dumpings that I simply have lost complete utter faith. This is one of the reasons why cricket fans in Australia feel somewhat disillusioned. Everything about the slow decline and standing of cricket in Australia, and the decline of domestic cricket (especially Sheffield Shield) goes back to when Sutherland became CEO of CA.

An aspect that frustrates me....

Uzi should've only been selected in the squad on the provision that he was going to play. If he wasn't, he should've been allowed to play for the Thunder on Saturday. Reminds me of the selection rules in State of Origin as well.

Selection should be made on form, not 'potential form'
