5 Things we learnt v Tigers

1 - Our defence is as bad as ever, Manu/Kata's edge is like the Red Sea.it parts whenever an opposition player looks at it.

2 - Issac Luke and SJ are recognized kickers but Tui is better...

3- Benrys knees arnt up to it

4- We need a decent captain

5- We need a couple of specialist wingers. Tui was there to kick goals, ?? , it seems, and Manu...it's all been said before. He is no longer a wing...

1 - SJ has 100% fully recovered from his injury.

2 - There's a bit more pride in the team, and / or someone knows how to give one hell of a halftime rev-up speech.

3 - Taking hitups by backing into the defensive line makes it shitloads easier for them to put us on our backs and slow everything down. There was a huge difference once we started getting quicker play-the-balls.

4. Matulino & Lisone should be starting.

5 - Good things take time.

And yes our defense was shit in the first half, but I reckon part of that was a side-effect of playing a team who had no expectations and nothing to lose. They threw it around and it stuck. We almost never seem to have a Plan B in those situations, but the way we came back in the second half shows things have improved - maybe not by much, but it's a start.

1. There's no easy games away from home, there's no just turning up with all our talent and just waltzing past the opposition, we have to fight hard for every win.

2. The Warriors usually fade in the hot conditions, this time it went the other way.

3. Luke and Sheck might not be instant classics, they'll need time to gel with us.

4. Heading towards our 10th straight loss this Friday night the coach will probably continue to chop and change players in our trouble spots, instead of settling on developing combinations, and confidence.

5. Johnson and our workhorses, i.e. Mannering, Thompson, and now hopefully Gavet, will keep us in enough games to keep us competitive on the ladder, but we won't be dancing by mid-September unless there's significant improvement in our overall performance.

1. Isaac Luke is enjoying his retirement from the NRL in Auckland
2. James Gavet rocks and diamonds. Dont we have one of those on the wing?
3. RTS can do great impersonation of a revolving door.
4. Shaun Johnson hasnt kicked a goal since his injury. Doctors orders?
5. Cappy couldnt coach his way out of a paper bag. Now waiting for Jim to pull the trigger

Yeah, I was gonna say that! I don't want to think it though, he strikes me as a big-time professional...but at the Bunnies. He's back with the whanau now.

Hopefully he proves our cynicism wrong, and in spades.

I'm sure the boys were just waiting for it to cool down a bit before they dipped their big toes into the new season.

You have to wonder, also only playing together in a game situation once before this season with the amount of new recruits can't have helped.
I'd say at half time Cappy was checking out the situations vacant in the local paper, and Justin Morgan must be thinking he just wasted the last 3 or 4 months of his life trying to deliver a message on defence that just didn't seem to get through.

i wonder what some of the old players like Mark Graham think of this hugging business just before the game starts. Seems like they should be getting more fired up. They seemed asleep. Having said that, the Tigers were doing the same thing so obviously didnt affect them at all.....

1. Ayshford and Gavet passed their initiation into the Warrior team.

No mistakes with Blake and the Tigers know that and that could also be the reason the Tigers didn't attack that side with one of their main attacking weapons in strong fending Tim Simona.

Gavet was undoubtedly running hard and fast at the Tigers. Watch the game again and you'll see him and Lisone really stand out with their hit ups. James made a misdirected off load early in the game which resulted in a turnover and then after that he stopped offloading, in the second half he got the ball 15 meters out and this time he needed to off load and could of quite easily but didn't because of his earlier botch up. Otherwise Gavet should be locked in the team.

2. Our spine wasnt what it was hyped to be.

Right from the start Shaun Johnson got us on the wrong foot, he just had to put the ball into touch but failed. Yes Woods got pushed out after that but the Warrior needed that bit of momentum at the start. SJ ended up being the spine at the end of the game as Robson, Luke and RTS wernt linking up to produce anything.

Luke looked fat and his eyes looked like he just came through the Sahara desert.

RTS was playing fine. He missed a tackle on Simona but the Tigers shouldn't have came out off their own line to be in that situation in the first place.

Robson definitely made the touch on Sironen in the games opening try but it's not touch footy is it. Like I said he just didn't seem to fit in. He also dropped the ball which is the last thing a pivot should do especially an experienced one. The thing that concerns me is he failed to set up anything or work with the spine.

3. We're definitely in it this year.

Let's hope the Warrior comes out of the sheds every week like they did in the second half of that match. We did shit loads of bad, lot of things didn't go to plan, we didn't have much ball, we were at a 12 point deficit and we almost won. We will improve and we will gel. There's plenty there for the Warrior fan to keep us watching with belief.

As good as 30 minutes of the second half was, you have to remember it was against the Tigers. The Tigers are tipped for bottom 3, so there is 12 teams supposedly better and won't allow the Warriors to pile on 24 unanswered points each game

Too early in the season to SPECULATE where the Tigers will end up. Bottom 3 is the Tigers suppose to be is it? As you say.. we'll see I say

Anyway I meant I hope the Warrior continues their form from the second half into next week. I hope you get what I'm trying to say on a positive note as a Warrior fan.

1. Warriors fans give the team lots of rope going by the first few posts on this thread.
2. Our coach is a chump.
3. The Warriors have already brought Luke and RTS down to their standard.
4. Our coach is a chump.
5. I used to give Mannering shit, calling him Rugby League Reuben (after Reuben Thorne), I was wrong.
6. As an extra, our coach is a chump.

4- We need a decent captain.

What's wrong with Hoffman? Apparently the NZ coverage missed a huge spray he gave our team on fulltime, which the Australian coverage got. Something Simon never did. Hoffman is absolutely the best captaincy option and I believe he has every hallmark of a great NRL captain. Whether he's got a dud side under him, that's not on him. This is a bloke who had the necessary skill, heart and dedication to be named NSW's best in their first series win in 9 years. He's a gun who should be respected and followed.

Totally agree. I don't see why Hoffman captaincy should be called into question. It's clutching at straws for me or barking up the wrong tree. Mannering without the burden went well yesterday.

That's the other thing, Mannering will now be more effective without the (c). He's even said he feels mentally refreshed just being one of the guys.

I'll ponder on my 5, one of them will be that we've learned we are not a professional environment yet, no matter what we say. Being down 28-4 at halftime of round one proves we are miles off. Look at the Dogs, who are a VERY professional outfit who set the tone for the year by smashing Manly out of the blocks. They're not an All-Star roster. Just have a great coach, a great CEO and an environment to take heed of.

1. Kata is one of the worst defencive centres we have had. he backs off every time and they just run around and past him

2. cappy used the 8 interchanges well. Matulino comes in after 25 and doesnt come off. Bodene comes on and the game changes

3. i enjoyed RTS giving kata manu and robson 2 decent sprays in the in goal after 2 of the tries. he didnt hold back

4. being at the game in bay 18 with all the warriors fans was one of the best atmospheres ive experiance especially in the 2nd half. some guy bought in a drum sat in the front row and didnt reLly watch the game just faced us and started the chants. also the butcher, jim doyle and shontayne hape coming down and sitting with the fans in the 2nd was unreal. doyle leading the wRriors chant and then manu knocking on doyle takes his cap off throwing it on the ground and dropping F bombs lol classic

5. its only round 1. mathematically we can still make the 8 :)

And rightly so.

That's the thing I can't cop. We didn't deserve to win that game, but if Manu/Lolohea don't make those basic schoolboy errors when we had all the momentum then in all likelyhood we win.

Instead we spent the majority of the last ten minutes defending our line when we should have been trying to press our advantage home.

Kata should of been dropped plenty of times last year for making dumb decisions and being terrible in defence but as we all know he played the whole season. As a rookie it would of kept him in check but like Manu it seems he knows he wont get dropped and plays like it. If he's picked week in week out again this year regardless of performance then i expect nothing to change for the Warriors and Mcfadden.

At least we agree on one thing.

2. cappy used the 8 interchanges well. Matulino comes in after 25 and doesnt come off. Bodene comes on and the game changes
The game was lost by the time Matulino came on and he was noticeably out of puff at the end from playing from that time onwards.

Someone needed to give RTS a spray for his poor defence.

We searched for tickets in Bay 18 and there was only general entry so we just thought there wasn't one and sat in the sun.

Probably good I wasn't within Doyle's earshot - although, I wouldn't have charged him for my consultation.

What shape is Hape looking in? He could waltz in to the club and be the number 2 centre behind Solomona McFadden-Kata if he's even partly fit.

5. its only round 1. mathematically we can still make the 8 :)
Ok, two things we agree on.
