no the other way merge the Bunnies with the Roosters we are better than them in so many ways. Three licenced clubs (Souths Zero) An oval Ozzie - Souths nil. We don't have a broken down actor who is on the way out...sorry but really a stupid idea - just have a look at crowd averages and see where we are and who we are in front of..

Souths have one good year with supporters and all of a sudden the crowd averages of the past are non existant

Mother's day crowds generally are pretty pathetic.

A mother's day crowd between stone motherless last and an out of town rookie team..... did anyone actually expect a bumper turn out??

Perhaps the roosters should have done a brisbane and whinged about scehduling. Surely given the precident they would have happily switched it to be a titans home game?

I turned it off it, watching a game with that piss poor crowd makes it lose all importance, you are pathetic rooster fans...

Roosters home average this year is 14,416 compared to Eels 14,885 a difference of about 3% which is minimal considering they are basement dwelling.

It was poor, very poor but stuck in the basement on Mothers day against out of town opposition several clubs in Sydney would struggle to get more than say 9,000 so let's not hammer the roos that much.

OK, I'll make the best comparison I can. Let's take 1996. Of the 13 seasons prior to that year (1983-1995), the Roosters had only made the finals once (1987). Just about everyone here will admit that the 80's and first half of the 90's was probably the worst time in the Roosters history so you'd imagine our support would be at its worst given our fickle nature. 1996 was the year we signed Freddy (makes for a good comparison with Souths of this year given all the signings and the high expectations for the Bunnies).
So, on the back of such a long run of disappointing years the Roosters managed an average home crowd in 1996 of 16093 (not counting finals). The average crowd for every home & away game in 1996 was 11452. In comparison, Souths had an average home crowd that year of 4666 (no that's not a typo, they never even managed a home crowd above 10000 the entire year).
Now, let's fast forward to 2007. The Chooks have just had two shocking years and it's quite obvious that this year is looking just as bad, if not worse. They're favourites for the spoon. Our home crowd figures so far this year show an average of 14417 (even after this week's crap figure). Souths average home crowd is 18387 and the season average is somewhere around the 17500 mark for all games.

So, to summarise, after the Roosters worst run in their history, they managed to get about 40% more to their home games then the average crowd in 1996 (and nearly 400% more than Souths in the same year). In comparison this year (and in similar circumstances to the Roosters in 1996), Souths have managed slightly more than the season average and about 28% more than the Roosters. So, what's your point again?

Of course, I've noticed a couple of Eels fans giving their two cents (what a surprise). The Eels have just made 8 out of the last 10 finals series. Minor Premiers in 2001 and 2005. Completely unstoppable in 2001 (except by the Knights) and one game shy of the GF in 2005. Only just slipping out of the 8 this year but definately going better than the Chooks. In the middle of one of the bigger league bases in the country and have managed an average home crowd of 14885 this year - only slightly more than the poorly travelling Roosters. Considering they didn't have to put on a home game on Mother's Day, that's a fairly p!ss poor effort. Why don't we move them to Gosford? What about Penrith? They're going better than the Chooks this year. They've won a GF more recently, yet they've only managed to average 14729. Why don't we move them to Perth? Of course, these are ridiculous suggestions, but no more than ridiculous than the crap a lot of you are coming up with. Fair dinkum, you're like a bunch of old women. We get one sh!t crowd on a traditionally bad day for league crowds and you all go hysterical.

This is what happens when a strong club is down on it's luck. All the cowardly opposition supporters who are usually licking their wounds each week take their opportunity to have a few digs until the strong team rises back up again and then the scum resume their usual stance of cowering in a corner.

It's science.

It was dreadful, no doubt about it, but why spent so much energy paying the crap out of people on here?

Most of the people on these forums are right into this game and their team. Personally, i think that they should be given some slack and commended for showing up through thick and thin, just as I always admired the Bunnies fans for spending their hard earned to see a loss every couple of weeks for years on end.

well argued mOjO. Every Sydney club attracts poorish attendances when going poorly. Sufficient to point out that the chooks fellow basement dwellers, the mighty dragons, are over 4,000 a game down on the Roosters. It can happen to each and every club in the city.

are you still sad at not being the longest club who has continuously been in the FG -our 1000 wins, a premiership which was in colour not black and white and your team is a stuffed team who wouldn't give a tortise a run...lol@SOUFFS

No way. You cant defend the Roosters with their avg.

They have been boosted by all the effort that Souths went to at the start of the season to get souths fans to the Syd v Souths match and the fact that they had a ANZAC day clash. Without the help from souths and the stand-alone, on a public holiday match their avg would be on par with the dragons.

Albeit the fact that yesterdays match was mothers day and they are last and up against the GC is certainly going to limit the amount of people at the game. But everyone seems to think that they were fudging the figures somewhat so it could be worse.

Chooks fans? There are Chooks fans?

I thought their crowds consisted only of opposition teams that wanted to see their team beat the Chooks?

Oh, there was that guy who wore a rubber glove on his head and pretended to be a chicken....

How coem the Tigers and Dragons don't have a thread dedicated to bagging them?

They brought on average only about 6,500 to the game yesterday....

The roosters seem to always have crap crowds and this is just icing on the cake, but from some of the figures quoted here that could be a misconception.

That is a terrible comparison. The way to do this comparison is to compare your 1996 crowd against ours from this year. Then compare your crowds from 83-95 and ours from 90-05. Throw in the RL average for those years and we are there. Though to get a much more accurate picture this thing would need to be done at the end of the season.

Oh, and you've got an ANZAC match in there as well as a match against us in which we outnumbered you.
