6 Again

Sorry Linespeed, that's a myth. It was first introduced in England in 66/67 and came about as teams played possession football which led to very boring play. The Dragons holding on aging players like Walsh, Clay etc didn't help their cause in 67 but the South Sydney juggernaut ( 11 current & future representative players in one side ) would have been hard to topple anyhow.

I remember Dad being really bitter about the new rule in ‘67:

“Traditionally, Australian and New Zealand delegates opposed changing the play-the-ball rule. But Australia now had its own problem. St George had won the Sydney premiership ten consecutive times and were about to make it eleven later that year.

Although there is no evidence for St George fans’ belief that the rule was deliberately changed to stop them winning, the Dragons’ total domination meant that the Australian representatives were more receptive to ideas to make the game more competitive.

Back in England, the rule was trialled in the BBC2 Floodlit Trophy in October 1966. After a handful of matches it became obvious that it encouraged attacking play and speeded up the game considerably. From November 1966 four tackles became the rule for all matches.

It was a success throughout the league world. Australia’s Bill Buckley said the new rule had ‘revitalised’ the game. Although he didn’t know it at the time, the new rule also coincided with the end of St George’s amazing premiership run when Canterbury finally ended the Dragons’ streak with a 12-11 win in the 1967 preliminary final.”

Kevin Ryan’s defection to the Berries cost us big time.
Although we were minor premiers in ‘67, I also doubt DP that we’d’ve done the Rabbits.
Clay was a 5/8 made for the old rule

This is bollocks.

Looks like Refs are too scared of crowe & politis to call 6 again!

I bet they call it heaps in our match.

Rooster were laying all over 'em, staring at the ref at one stage.

Just bollocks...

Exactly what I said in the other thread. It's speeding up the game but so far it appears, at least to me, to be inconsistent. Like you said, the Roosters appear to holding in the tackles and not getting called out. I find it hard to believe the Roosters have changed that much in the ruck.

Let's see how Melbourne fare.

It's become a real game of momentum...[/QUOTE

I agree momentum but also add fitness especially early on. From what I’ve seen these changes will need to be monitored closely. If the refs are over zealous on the 6 agains, not only will the team on the wrong end rack up a big tackle count and inevitably concede points they’ll be too fatigued
to have any hope of staging exciting comebacks. Even harder if the ref is inconsistent at keeping the defence back 10 metres.

We did Dragon David but he’s ready for 1st grade and with McIness being an 80 min player and captain, where would he have played??
Yes, that was the problem and he couldn't oust Cam so as usual, we cannot keep them all and good luck to those players who leave us and get a go at other clubs.

What was he actually trying to say. I am a fwit who has no idea about coaching and my mates have tried to help me out but I am a continuous failure is what I think he should be saying.

Seriously which coach would come up with such a statement I couldn’t believe my ears.
He is an embarrassment to this club the players and supporters.
But the biggest embarrassment should be our board who keep signing him. Makes me sick to think he has wasted all these years

Is this guy really our coach? Unbelievable!! I seriously doubt he has any idea what to do for today's game. C'mon Flanno and Sheppard do your own thing with our players and don't take any notice of what the shiny headed "think I'm a good coach" says. Just ignore him!
They have been practising scenarios Mary says based on the new rules and 1 ref
I wonder if they are practising the scenario of how their game will evolve without his voice and presence. How easy footy will become again for the players
Not his complex uneducated modern manual mumbo jumbo corporate speak verbatim style.
But he is an innovative coach...outsmarting the other coaches. First the stop and go paddles..now he wont watch other teams to work out how to beat them..he will just watch the ref and see if he can learn how the game is played
Beating and working on your opposition is too hard.

Thank god they have the scenario of standing together behind the posts down pat thanks to 2019. Surely they haven’t practiced that over the off season
