I’ve just finished telling my son about the game in the 80’s and 90’s.

Has anyone gone back and watched older games.... how good are they.

I believe that Craig Bellamy has single handedly RUINED the modern game..... wrestling, chicken wings, Achilles crushing......

Why can’t we abolish all this crap and go back to when the game was the ‘Greatest of All’

Thought the same about Sunday nights game.A lot of holding on too long and laying around in the ruck led to a very stodgy game.Coaches are playing the odd's that the refs will leave their whistle out of their mouths.

Dont look at the result, look at the cause ...

This is the net result of the 10m rule ...

Originally the sides were 10m apart with both the attacking and defensive sides 5m from the ruck - however, the attacking sides crept closer and instead of penalising them for offside and addressing the cause of the problem they slapped a bandaid on it and dropped the defensive line back 10.

The net result is what we have now

Some obvious things that change immediately with a return to 5m for both sides (which with 2 refs is actually easier to manage)

1. Kick blockers on drop outs and the like are gone
2. Dummy half running is gone
3. The 5/8 makes a return
4. Attack is played 2 passes wide and into less congestion increasing the likelihood of 2nd phase
5. Wrestle is not needed - in fact it is discouraged as you want faster play the balls if you can get back the 5 quickly. The game actually speeds up and more Football is actually played.

However, NRL and ARL and NSWRL are happy to slap bandaids rather than actually consider what the real cause of the problem is.

Melbourne as a whole have a lot to answer for.
