Having some pride in your country and wanting your national team to do well is bandwagoning?
Being loyal and supportive =/= Bandwagoner.
Most fans' dreams stop clearly at advancing through to the next stage, a 100% possible task as Ghana and Serbia are nowhere near powerhouse, like Germany.
Not a soccer fan myself, but the world cup is kinda like the Olympics...I watch it even if I would normally laugh at the game
 Fired up are we Didgi? I wasn't talking to you, but judging from that defensive reaction maybe I should have been.... I want the Socceroos to do well too, simply because they represent Australia, but I don't particularly care if they don't and outside the world cup I couldn't care less what they do. Rather like I couldn't care less what Eamonn Sullivan does outside the Olympics. But you can't deny there is a massive bandwagon surrounding soccer at the moment, and as soon as the Socceroos go back to sucking arse soccer will go back to being behind even AFL in this country. I don't pretend to like the sport just because the Socceroos are doing better than they used to, and like any bandwagon it sh*ts me that people do. Got a problem with that little fella?
Ah yes, as soon as someone has a different viewpoint to yours it means that they're fired up. *Reminder* This is a discussion board. I don't have a problem with anything you said, but I disagree with your viewpoint.
Bandwagoning would involve supporting a side only when it's going well, if anything is being bandwagoned, it's the World Cup concept. Suggesting that people only support (doesn't have to be actively) the Socceroos during the biggest tournament is wrong. The support never diminishes, it's the importance of the tournament that governs general public interest. Whenever you see a socceroos result in the news, don't you immediately want Australia to win? The support is always there.
Majority of people don't actively support Eamon outside of the olympics, but that doesn't mean the care + support isn't there. Doesn't everyone get a warm fuzzy feeling somewhere just above the groin when you hear an Australian has done something well? Using another example, I don't actively follow F1, but I was as happy to hear that Webber had won as the most dedicated supporter.
No doubt soccer interest has increased enormously, but that's only natural for the biggest event on earth (2nd biggest counting Olympics, I think). It's like saying a first grade game would attract more interest than a reserve grade, or the WC more than the NRL. It's a different level of competition.

Facepalm...Didgi, can you actually read, and comprehend that written word? Where did I suggest there was a world cup bandwagon? I did not, I said there is a Socceroos and soccer in general bandwagon. It's been trundling along since the last world cup when all of a sudden we were half decent, and it hasn't diminished too greatly because we are still half decent. The fact is, though, that soccer support in this country is largely made up of people who jumped on with success, and will jump off again when it goes. You only have to look at the support pre 2006 ish to see that.

Same here, go ITALY!
lolDidgi, your idol's name is spelt wrong in your sig
See, that's where you're wrong Baz. In 2006 we were far more than just "half-decent" - we went within a diabolical refs call of taking Italy to extra time and perhaps progressing to the final four ...Facepalm...Didgi, can you actually read, and comprehend that written word?
