yeh he was all class. What a backline that was though hey? Never seen a backline quit like it. Sublime. Sterling Kenny Cronin Ella Grothe Taylor at fullback and Liddiard on the other wing. Sterling for mine is the best half I've seen other than Johns.
Liddiard was really only there for 1 Grand Final, namely 1983.
In 1981, the other winger was Graeme Atkins. In 1982, it was Neil Hunt. In 1983 it was David Liddiard. 1984, it was Neil Hunt again. In 1986 it was Mick Delroy.
As such Liddiard was not as integral to that Eels backline, especially considering he didn't reach first grade at the Eels until 1983, and left after the 1985 season. Also
his try scoring in first grade for the Eels -
1983: 12 tries from 27 games;
1984: 2 tries from 14 games; and
1985: 3 tries from 17 games.
The Eels had a stunning backline in the 1980s, but Liddiard was no where near as big in my opinion.
