Forgot about those 2 Lotti but it is still a fair way from being a flood of players lost.

there's a few other players in the ESL that probably went over to England because of the cap.

What about no-cap, but assistance for clubs outside of Sydney - putting pressure on clubs to relocate.

Therefore the NRL keep all expansion clubs and setup an environment where Sydney clubs either move or die of natural causes.

Something like this would have been preferable than the gun to the head criteria approach of 10 years ago, where we lost on all fronts.

you cant just 'get rid' of sydney teams. sure there are alot of sydney teams but that is because the the mainstream RL comp in Aust started in Sydney. get used to it, they will be around for a while.

The cap is being kept artificially low and that is hurting the game due to players leaving for SL. Still amazes me that, even with the exchange rate, SL clubs can spend more on NRL players despite getting a 1/3rd of the grant money NRL clubs get.

Most SL clubs are operating on incomes of around $8mill. Most NRL clubs are on $12mill+, where's the NRL clubs money going? How can the two comps salary caps be the same when ones income is so much greater?

i assume that super league would have a lot more mediocre players earning less money then the average nrl player so they can then spend more money on high profile players from australia

Instead of getting rid of the cap, why not get rid of everything outside a players club contract that they count towards the cap as it stands. Allow individual sponsorships and third party agreements as just that. There are some ridiculous rules under the current cap, it needs a serious overhaul. If a player is good enough to attract extra money via a deal outside his contract, then why should his earning potential be punished by the cap?

just to clarify the cap has created in england at least a competition of real merit.
after 13 seasons of super league, i do however feel that the cap is artificially low.
in terms of turnover in the uk i believe leeds rhinos are the wealthiest club, with a turnover of 9 million sterling (18 million dollars), a lot of clubs average around 4 to 5 million that is a fact.

the best supported rugby union club in the north of england is a team called sale sharks based in stockport, they average around 7,000 and have a fan base lower than 8 or 9 super league clubs, yet their turnover is also reported at around 9 million sterling.

i am sometime amazed that world class sporting clubs like the brisbane broncos, leeds rhinos , wigan warriors, and others cannot seemingly compete with bit part rugby union clubs. the salary cap is infact smouthering excellence because it has failed to keep pace with the reality of the market.

i have no doubt that the greats of our game should be able to earn a million a year.and external sponsorship is surely their own business. it is ludicrous that being all equal, means that we can potentially lose flagship players to that terrible sport of rugby union..

i dont like to see any league player in union, nor do i see the benefit of having union players in our game. the fact that we in england have not signed union players for a number of years has resulted in the best set of 18 year old players in living memory.........................and with that i can see the day when we are able to defeat the kangaroos on a regular basis

i dream of that more than i dream of corfu

Also by not having 3rd party sponsorship you miss out on a great opportunity for our star players to be seen on Tv and become household names across the country. I'm sick of seeing Union, Cricket and Soccer players in ads and no RL players. Let them earn more that way and it will also help clubs develop stronger corporate partnerships.

It is a shame that most clubs would die without a salary cap. Broncos would have the whole Australian team on roster.
