A couple of questions about the NRL?

Campbelltown is good when it has a decent crowd (i.e against the Broncos last year).

Unfortunately most of the games we get there are against out of town teams, which worked well for me this year because Melbourne played there.

Majority of junior leagues have grand finals at the local stadium aswell. Played many games at Campbeltown Stadium.
I may be thinking of a different stadium then cause I think the tigers had one game this last year in an alternate stadium and they had like 2500 people show up and the managment was bitching about the crowd and how if they didn't get more support they were going to stop playing there.

That was Campbelltown against the Cowboys.

Cowboys (unlike Brisbane) don't have much following here.

The game against Melbourne on a Monday night was a pretty small crowd aswell.

Don't forget RL players all must tackle for the whole match

Do NFL defenders wear gloves?
Everybody but the kickers. They have lineman gloves which are padded but most players where the standard ones which fit your hand like a NRL jersey fits the torso and they weigh about as much as a par of rubber gloves. After 5 minutes you don't even realize you have them on.

Living in the US I don't get the up close coverage you guys get and I've only been following the NRL for a few years but:

1. Do the Bunnies, Roosters or Dogs have their own stadiums or are they locked into ANZ/Allianz? It seems the fans are more engaged/louder when I watch the Sea Eagles, Eels, Panthers, Cowboys...
Just on this one, The Bulldogs train and have their administrative offices at Belmore, and as part of the clubs 80th years anniversary will have a one-off game there in the 2015 season.

Souths who also used to play at Redfern now train there fulltime.

I understand the tradition thing, I just looked at it from the aspect that IMO what sets League apart from Union in the pace/speed of play and it would improve upon that.

I personally don't understand how people watch Union. There was a Six Nations match a few years ago that had like 21 minutes of scrums which is insanity. How do you watch guys pack a scrum over and over and over again.

The personalised numbers argument due to marketing oppotunities doesn't really hold against the tradition we have in our game for positional numbering. I know as a junior playing rugby league, the only number I wanted to wear was #7. If you are the first string half at your club you have earned the right to wear that jumper.

I think you will find the numbers changing only for the marginal player, (the exception being positional reshuffle due to injuries). These players do not generally influence merchandise sales.
I understand that and alot of the coaches I had through the years would refer to you by number until you earned the right to be called by name, but when I first started watching league and was trying to pick up on the dynamics/play of the game I got screwed up watching Sam Burgess because he kept changing numbers.

After 4 years it's not a big deal but people that are new to the game it takes some getting used to.

The drainage there looked a little questionable as it seemed like there was mud everywhere which I figured kept the crowd away.

Nope, that was Leichhardt.

And with the amount of rain on those days, even the the big stadiums drainage would have struggled.

Unfortunately whilst I love watching games sitting on the hill with my son, they aren't the best places when there is torrential rain.

Players already get enough assistance with holding onto the ball. Jerseys these days have silicone grip built into the chest area and the humble Steeden is vastly different to what it was years ago.

1. Souths & Roosters don't have their own stadiums.

I thought the SFS kind of is the Roosters' own stadium though? They always played at Sydney Sports Ground, the SFS was built upon that ground, therefore it's just a much better version of their old ground?

I would argue that too. We've played on essentially the same patch of dirt since 1910, so that qualifies it as "ours" in my eyes.

Yeah I figured I might have mixed up the grounds.

Just out of curiosity how much does general admission on the hill cost?.. Also are you allowed to bring beach chairs, food etc.. in with you.

Dude check the ISP address. I live outside Philly in the states and just started watching the game 4 or so years ago. The fundamentals of league are the same as football so it's not that hard to pick up the subtleties.

Same game different technics and conditioning.

We already suffer from enough Americanisation of our culture, language, spelling amongst other things. Even our spell check on here keeps trying to substitute 'zees' for esses.
Let's keep our numbering system. It's a tradition.
Let me ask you a question as far as jumpers go. I'm going to use Underarmor as an example.

UA just signed a 10 year 90 million dollar deal with the University of Notre Dame. This deal has them paying ND 9 mill a year plus they provide all the uniforms/jumpers for all their sports teams, football, soccer, violleyball...

If UA came in and offered the NRL, just as a hypothetical, 25 mill a year plus a cut of merchandising sales. The look at the NRL and say we think the NRL has what it takes to become a global brand and we're willing to supply all the equipment, jumpers, boots etc, as part of this deal.

For UA though they want to eliminate all advertising on the jumpers except for the UA logo, the NRL logo and they want the team logo to dominate the front of the jumper and the back to have the player name and a set number.

It would more than likely result in the NRL increasing revenues which would result in a trickle down effect of having a higher cap, better facilities and the ability to lure elite players from other leaugues/codes.

Stay with the status quo or try to grow the game?

Asnito, jump on the Jarryd Hayne bandwagon my good man,Hayne will cure AIDS and Ebola in our lifetime, nothing surer.
I'm rooting for Hayne to do well but I'm hedging my bets at this point. The wagon you guys should jump on is Dan Cadona. 1st time I saw the kid was on tuesday and he was killing it. He had a better game than any I saw from Brad Wing.

The number of Aussies playing NCAAF just keeps going up every year. I watched a game last night between 2 national powers in Ole Miss and LSU and they both had an Aussie kicking for them.

It's no surprise there's so many former Aussie rules players are coming over as a 4-5 year football scholarship is worth 150-250k plus perks.

The numbers are traditional and tell you the players position, even more important these days with so many similar body types, can you imagine a QB wearing 99?

Gloves were a thing in the 90's (mainly wingers), they didn't really help and made you look stupid, the ball sticking to the hand is not entirely desirable. Think again, how many QB's wear gloves?

Only myself and a few others give a crap about Rugby League in Adelaide, it is dominated by another sport. Think Mexico and soccer.
I still have my old gloves, used to use em for raquetball, and the gloves today just like the jumpers, boots, training, diets etc.. have come a long way in 20 years.

As far as league and Adelaide I have no idea about the demographics of Australia and its sports, but I look at the NRL as a league that could become a global brand but it would benefit them to do whatever it takes to become a player in all the major media markets of the country.
