A couple of questions about the NRL?

yes and no. Most sporting codes have teams who stick with a jersey design for many years and have only 2-3 variations of the jumper.

NRL clubs change their jumpers anywhere between every 1-3 years and have several variations of their jumper (Home strip, away strip, heritage strip, women in league strip, aboriginal recognition strip to name the minimum)

What the NRL may be losing in numbers on jumpers, they'd be making up in jumper variations probably.
Also wanted to ask, are you guys fine with advertisers on jumpers?

Let me ask you, I know he's left for Bath/Sale? but if you were a fan of Sam Burgess what number, if you wanted one, would you buy? 8, 10, 13.

See this is where I think the difference lay.

I believe Australians buy a jumper to support their team, not a player.

You won't find many people at all, who will support whatever team their favourite player plays for.

I have bought many jumpers as have my mates for 2 decades and none of us have ever had a jumper with a name or number on the back.

Makes sense and I appreciate your input. I imagine the banning of the shoulder charge wasn't very popular. We had a similiar problem here with college football and the targeting rule. Everybody was pissed when it was put in but looking back at it it needed to be done. Sometimes you have to step in and save a player from himself.

All rule changes are immediately met with criticism and people calling the game soft and comparing it to a past era.

But after a year or two, and the game keeps getting better, people move on from it.

The only one that may take a while to get over will be the no punching rule. I believes there an inherent primitiveness in all humans that enjoy watching combat - hell that's why we love watching sport.

Gloves are lousy if the aim of the game is to pass the ball, not just make ground with it, the Yanks could have Velcro covered balls and only the 'tosser' needed to not wear Velcro gloves in the money making exercise they call a sport

I agree with this Madunit, however there has always been a no punching rule. What people have a problem with is the mandatory 10mins for punching.
Not all punches are equal, the the punishment in game shouldn't be.

The worst part about the punching rule is if they gave Gallen 10 mins when it happened the rule would probably never been passed.

Gotcha so you don't think gloves help with handling? As for the record the NFL blows, it's a pure mercenary league. That college game on the other hand rivals the NRL for intensity, competiveness, desire, pride etc.. and actually generates more revenue than the NFL.

How about Origin jumpers though I've seen alot of people at games that have Thurston, GI, Slater, Hayne etc...

How come Alabama doesn't have an NFL team? They're crazy for the college game. Crimson Tide Vs Auburn etc.

Taking the piss ol' mate, it's probably harder to hold the ball when 4 obese 10 second warriors fall on you but in League we like to watch finesse and a feel for the ball is paramount. League's best players don't need padding because they don't want to be hindered, they don't need gloves because they have to tackle and there's too much skin exposed in League to be exposed to grippy gloves . . . maybe if they were made of wet chamois . . . nah

Rep teams tend to have little to no reshuffling and the best in their positions will come in, so its a lot more consistent and reliable to have rep jumpers with numbers or names on them.

In the grand scheme of things though, more NRL Club jumpers are sold than rep jumpers, so I'd regard it as a moot point.

Most, not all, of the major college programs are in smaller cities so the NFL would never have a team there due to population size.

College games are alot like Origin games where there's a lot of buzz and the whole town/city gets up for the event. Many times home games against a rival will see 100k+ come into town for the weekend and it's not uncommon to see people start showing up a week early and camping(students) RV's(alumni) in anticipation for the game. There's a lot of general admission so first come first served.

As far as Bama vs Auburn you'll probably have 102k in the stadium and another 50-100k tailgating outside. It's going to be a huge game this year just like last year.

Not sure what the heck you're trying to say but watch as many games as you can for the 2015 season and tell me you don't notice a distinct rise in the number of handling errors every time it's raining or the pitch is greasy.

Do you do to games? I was just wondering what the difference in experience is between going to a game at ANZ or say Manley or Parra.

i would rather any ground in the comp over ANZ. Allianz is pretty good if it's a 20k crowd or so apart from that smaller grounds a better for atmosphere, View etc.

Same for both teams friend, variety is the spice of life and we wish we had enough rain to complain about the handling. Gloves open a Pandora's box when they have to be inspected, James Graham would have razor blades sown into them, no sissy pants to cover the legs if gloves rip skin off and they would have to have that sort of improved grip to improve handling.

League specialises in handling and NFL players just want to throw their hands in the air every time they hang on and make a few metres is what I'm saying . . . akin to 3 hours of watching Kikuyu grow

Sorry mate, I'm turning an honest thread into a Green/Numb funfest . . . my apologies
