A Grade Challenge Cup

Id love to see this comp played during the season as opposed to a pre season comp when each team is in season form rather than coming out of pre season. Does anyone remember the old midweek Kentucky Fried Cup played on wednesdays at McCreadie Pk @ Guildford ?

i used to love it, the old man would take me over and watch and although i was young i loved watching teams from all over sydney playing against my local Parra A grade teams

the Parra A grade back then was an awesom sunday out at the footy at Carrawood, Cabra, Wenty i enjoyed it as much as what was the Sydney comp back then and would collect all the local paper clippings

Len Stacker, Ross Kidd, Ian Kedwood, Milo Vodagaz, Mick Gleeson, Gulio Pomponio, Tony Zervos were players i loved watching play locally back in the day

i live at Dubbo now but thru my work i travel to sydney 3 days a week on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and keep up with Cabra/Mounties/Wenty footy thru the Advance/Champion and a Wenty area local paper and when Wenty play at home on a sunday i leave early enough to get to Ringrose to watch them when i can

I have been told last night that Hills district A Grade has folded, Wenty are going to the Penrith comp and Mounties are going to group 6 which will leave Cabra the only 1st division club left.

The sooner a tough and expansive A Grade comp gets off the ground the better.

Apparently all the Hills A Grade players have moved over to the Quakers Hill Bushrangers.

Thats interesting because Quakers Hill is one of the 14 sides listed to play in the A Grade knockout but then so is Hills. The teams are:

Wenty, Cabramatta, Mounties, Hills, La Perouse, Moore Park, Coogee Randwick, Quakers Hill, Bondi United, Auburn Warriors, DLS Cronulla, St Clair, Forestville ans Asquith.

The NSWRL is trying to get 2 more teams but the top sides from Penrith and Manly comps - St Marys, Emu Plains, Belrose and Valley are all missing.

For Wenty, Cabra and Mounties only players that played more games in A Grade than in Bundy last year will be allowed to play.

Yeah, I heard that hills are only fielding an A reggies side this year. Fer f**k sake are them auburn warriors getting another go. Haven't they been punted a few times already. I'll never forget that brawl in the A1 semi at ringrose against either mounties or cabra and when they saw the game was out of reach, some of them went beserk. I recall one guy, their 6ft plus, 100kg prop smashing a defenceless 15 year old then chucking his old man off the top of the grandstand. I felt real sorry for Peter Tunks the coach and Hooch the poor captain of the side. Some real f**ktards being allowed to ruin it for the rest of them. Im just astonished theyre still allowed to play.

I'm disapointed that no teams from St George A grade seem to be in it.

Could be a completely different team. They won $6,500 for a 9's tournament on the South Coast on saturday. Ex NRL players Matt Utai, Lee Temaari and Junior Langi are all in the team.

Some of the players from the old days - Tarek Houcher, Anthony Farah and Shannon Chapman - have moved on to Mounties, and Joel Taafao is now with the Central Coast State Cup side.

I wonder where quakers are getting their money, word is they are paying anyone from the waterboy to players. rumours are they lost their pub sponsor.

Auburn Warriors have at least 4 ex NRL players in their side. In addition to Utail, TeMaari and Langi they also have Andrew Emelio.

The Wenty vs Clair game is just a trial not part of the Challenge Cup even though both teams entered.

There were supposed to be 8 games this weekend but 4 teams have forfeited:

St Clair forfeited to Mounties
Forestville forfeited to Wenty
Hills forfeited to Moore Park
La Perouse forfeited to Cabra

There are 2 games at Marcellin

Coogee Randwick vs Auburn Warriors at 1pm
Bondi United vs Gymea at 2.30

and 2 games at Quakers Hill

Minchinbury vs Asquith 2pm
Quakers Hill vs Glenmore Park at 3.30

Did those teams forfeit from their trials or from the knockout comp? That would mean they're eliminated, right? Also, are the auburn warriors just fielding a team for the knockout only or are they putting in an a grade side somewhere?

Yeah those teams are eliminated so Wenty, Cabra, Moore Park and Mounties all go through to the second round.

Auburn Warriors are listed as being from the Canterbury district.
