twist.

we can keep all five players if we do 1 of 2 things.

1] release Caylo.

2] release Hindy, but that would also give us some leeway to sign 1 youngster to replace him. you can choose between Liam Fulton, Paul Gallon or Anthony Topou

ok, fire away!!

the twist is that they all want to follow Smith to newcastle in 2007

Didn't get to reply before reading the twist, but my initial response was going to be Morrison and Riddell. Reasons - the others are current or future Australian players, these two won't be at that standard. (Tough choice, but someone of those five had to go).

After the twist, um... it means we have a situation where out of seven players (now including Caylo and Hindy) we can either:
a) keep five (through my initial choice of releasing Morro and Riddell)
b) have six (through releasing Caylo), or
c) have seven (through releasing Hindy and getting one of those three in return)

It's a salary cap decision, and you need to get best value for your set amount of money. Given the three choices, I would opt for maintaining seven players, by  releasing Hindy in return for getting... well any of them really (say Gallan).

Tough call, but the other non-Hindy options all reduce our squad strength by one or two players while spending the same amount of money, meaning we have to squeeze someone extra up into our top 25 on their existing level of pay, skill and experience. By releasing Hindy, you lose a lot in terms of individual player talent and skill, but the squad doesn't suffer as much as a whole.

I think? (Bloody hard brain-drain hypotheticals, Eela )

id have to say release morro and T. Morro because hes getting fairly old and we have a fair few options in the backrow and T because hes probably on the most out of anyone on that list and we also have a couple of options in the centres.

Morro and T, Morro could be replaced with a Junior (Mateo, Delaney, B Smith or Widders) and T, although he is brilliant, we have youngster that might be able to cover his role and he can be injury prone.

I'm going to be radically different just to stimulate debate.

Release Hindmarsh and sign Tupou.

That way, you get 7 players and a representative youngster who comes from a club that knows Premiership success.

Then we can keep Morrison and everyone else.

Simple.

I wouldn't say that, but brave choice never the less.

True.

I am just rebelling.

I was actually going to say something else that may be considered insane. But I thought better of it...

I was going to say that since Hindmarsh was never going to win a Premiership with the Eels anyway, keeping him here was just holding him back.

Purely to stimulate discussion, mind you. :D

no! not out to rack anyones brain, just setting a non reallistic scenereo of hypotheticals and interested to see what direction people take, one thing about this, is that no one's right or wrong but it does bring up some spirited discussion which we can have over the off season.
and occasionaly they come true

If this is an option I would release Cayless if he wanted to go to England. Otherwise I would have to stick with my original thoughts. Personally, I think Hindmarsh was a little down on form this year but I wouldn't release him.
