C'arn the Phoenix - nice to see some good All White talents in the team rather than over the hill Conference League players. Looking forward to seeing Daniel play too, the highlights I've seen of him on youtube are incredible. He looks freakish.

I miss the days when it was virtually an all Australia and New Zealand league. The rest of the world might find appeal in the flair of South Americans, the physical prowess of Africans, and the technical prowess of European imports - but give me a good old Australian battler anyday.

oh yeh, and we really attract the best of south america and africa in the a-league, don't we? the fact that Z grader brazilians can come here and dominate is proof of how sh*t the quality is. Look mate, you're welcome to enjoy the games and good luck to you, but please don't tell me it is good quality. The best 2 players through 2years of the a-league have been an old fart (yorke) and an z grader from brazil

I never claimed the NSL was quality but at least it didn't need to sign 35 year olds as marquee players.

You're right. Rather than Z-Grade South Americans, we got atrocious Australians who would never crack a start anywhere else in the world. I'll take a Z-Grade Brazilian who is now playing in the MLS over a Z-Grade South Australian who is now playing in the powerhouse that is the SAPL.

I'm not saying it's world class football or that you have to enjoy it, but it's still a vast improvement on what we were having to endure as representing Australian football five years ago.

quality is marginally better, but if people show you an NSL game and then an A-League game, they aren't going to see a world of difference. you seem to forget that the NSL was where plenty of our elite started their careers. bit of a newsflash, but 80-90% of A League players are ex NSL players

I love how A-League fans keep trying to deny the past.

It's the 10-20% who aren't from the old NSL that are making the difference. Sure, guys like Carle and Carney and Thompson are all ex-NSL products - but it's guys like Fred and Yorke who were luring new fans into the game.

And of course most of our elite players came through the NSL. In ten-fifteen years, most of our games elite will have come through the A-League. What does that fact have to do with the quality of the NSL? Where else were they going to come from? The NSWPL?
