spot on.
many on here would have you believe league would rate through the roof but nine has an anti league agenda in melbourne.
an agenda that would lead them to throw away millions in advertising revenue by showing lower rating programs
an we are the ones with the conspiracy theory :lol:
oh tards
you do realise it's a non ratings week?
that's why there are repeats on at night this week
thread fail
They don't do it because they believe that the ratings in Melbourne will not be good.
Has there ever been a grand final that has broken as many minds as the 99 grand final. I know plenty of the old Tigers players go on about the 89 grand final, so the 99 grand final does have a bit of competition, but seriously people get over loved ones dying faster than these axe to grind Dragon supporters have dealt with the loss a f**king decade a go.
For the record I spent the entire decade watching the Storm thump my club game after game. I don't begrudge them a spot in the NRL because I am not an insular idiot who still weeps over a game that happened when I was in highschool.
EDIT
Maybe the independent commission will look at funding some therapy for Dragon supporters under the guise of advancing relations between supporters.
An interesting game to play is to look at a poster who wishes the Storm didn't exist and check to see if they have an avatar/post history/user name/signature dedicated to the dragons.
To answer the OP in more detail: the commercial decision that others are talking about is Nine deciding to try to capture the female demographic on the night. A certain percentage of mostly male, some female viewers will watch football of some code or another, but there is a minority of mostly female viewers who want something that isn't sport.
That's why Ten fails so hard in Sydney with AFL on Saturday nights and gets beaten by Iron Chef - the blokes in Sydney are all watching one of two football codes, and the sheilas flock to the cooking show. Nine has decided it doesn't want to get beaten in Melbourne by some Japanese ponce in a pink lame jumpsuit, so it screens chick flicks and light entertainment against the AFL instead of NRL.
Demetriou was strong enough to force Ten into showing AFL in Sydney via contract, and actually get Ten to honour that contract. Gallop wasn't strong enough to enforce Nine's contract to show NRL in Melbourne. That's the real nub of the matter.
any programming executive from ANY channel would be committing career suicide if they broadcast live league in Melb - sad fact but true
Newsflash, the Swans get two to three times the crowds of the Storm and they don't rate all that much in Sydney either. That doesn't mean you give up on the market altogether. Gallop has to harden up and force the networks to show league in RL to build the support and viewership. It's a chicken-and-egg situation - you don't get the support unless you get exposure, and you don't get exposure unless you get support. Gallop and/or the IC have to break that vicious cycle in the next broadcasting agreement.so the answer is because it doesn't rate?
so what about these great inroads?
what about this massive interest?
what about this massive groundswell of support?
do they not have tv's or something?

Face it TD, the Storm will beat you on the field as they usually do, and they're not going away. I'm sure you'd love the bad old uncompetitive days of one club winning eleven premierships in a row, but that's ancient history now. Suck it down, sunshine.
spot on.

It will rate, not through the roof but it will rate a lot higher than Nine say it will. If it does rate then it will make a lie of the reasons why they can't show Storm games before 1am. And for content which is essentially free to Nine in Melbourne it will rate higher than whatever rubbish they are showing in it's place. I can understand that they don't want to show League in prime time down there and yes that is a commercial decision, but there is no reason they can't show Storm games at 10.30 when the AFL has finished.
with all due respect cletus - i'm not sure if it is going to rate just because you think it will - there are programming directors being paid very top bananas to schedule what they feel the audience will watch - for them to show league on the graveyard slot tells me their studies show it will not rate : Melbourne + League = FAIL.....oh wait but we have to 'let it grow' don't we
why do you think they don't show it?
