It IS Kevin Roberts and it IS David hatch and it WAS Steve Mortimer that ended Wakefield.

geez I hated the thugs that the bulldogs were back then and the fact that they got away with it....remember the barrage that lamb dished out to Speechley?? I know speechley grabbed him but that is an over reaction for sure...and again...nada.

Canterbury.....I hate them!

Just a bit of food for thought here Nulla.

And I know where you are coming from. But all the Doggies have to do these days - is point to the scoreboard (or the trophy cabinet).

Maybe that might of been our problem in those days........ they had better thugs and mongrels. Mongrels and thugs coached under Wok Ryan at the dogs and Roy Masters at their West Days....

Won't happen in todays sanitized world (except state of origin - different rules - and game promotion) but it was still part and parcel, although dying out - in those days.

Like it or not - it still got the desired outcome. ie. Lamb Hannerly combo 1988. I believe it was "our ellery" that cut us the threads and knocked us out of the final..... "our ellery" didn't get that chance in the GF - rest my case your worship.

And Canterbury's "Prince of Darkness" Steve Mortimer did almost the same thing to Mark Wakefield in Round 2 of the 1986 season. And the prick had the nerve to carry on about being a victim of circumstance for getting a 10 week suspension in his autobio book some years later.

But props wore #13 in 1985, the change in numbering came in in 1989, so #13 can't be Hatch, I'd go with Errol Hillier.

excllent point...yes I stand corrected......not Hatch

and yeah Quigs the dogs can point to their trophy cabinet from the thug years but quite frankly i wouldnt have been happy supporting a team with the likes of Bugden and Terry Lamb, Geoff Robinson, and the one i really loathed Farrar!!!!! Bunch of low lifes in my opinion who got away with a lot of crap that should have been stamped out........while our boys seemed to me to always play it clean (at least Miller and davidson came in and showed them how to give a bit back)

nulla - I have not come across one Doggie supporter in my life that has a bad word to say against a winning team. Infact I have not met anyone that supports a winning side that does not like them - harsh fact of human nature.

It is always good to be a nice guy, but nice guys always don't finish first.

Fact is our guys arn't just nice and fluffy, they are extra soft in the under belly department. Come September you need guys that want to go over the top of the trenches first.

Personally at this point in my life I would crawl over two miles of broken glass to lick the ground where our Sharkies had their celebration drink with "OUR" first ever winning team. And I wouldn't care if we won it fairly, Hartley-ey, or punched piss and pick handles out of the opposition to get it. I just want to see it happen before I go and play on another planet.

Impatient bastard - arnt I. - 39, 40, 41, 42,

Got my hands on League Week - 25 sensational years... compiled by David Middleton.

Came across this old pic.. will bring back some bad memories for us older sharkie supporters.

The tackle that virtually ended Rogers Career.

p-75-01.jpg

The tackle that put an end to Steve Roger's playing career in Australia. Canterbury's hooker Mark Bugden's tackle smashed Rogers Jaw. Bugden was suspended for 14weeks for the tackle. he obviously "didn't miss him"

Left to right
Ref is ??? (ex copper on tip of me tongue Is it Kevin ??) Steve Folkes (current dogs coach) Peter Tunks, Rogers, Bugden, and sharks Khann (i think)

Cheers
Quigs.

I think player 13 was Paul Merlo

I was at that game also sitting on the hill towards the scoreboard end. Our trial form was great. Everyone was talking about the return of ROGERS back where he belongs after he crossed the bridge in the previous two years. GIBSON coaching and ROGERS running the team on field had everyones hopes up for season 1985. It was no secret that CRONULLA without ROGERS would struggle. And the look on Bugden's face shows how much force he put into swinging his forearm and the fears of all Sharks fans were realised.
I was at the game . Broke my heart and ruined my season. i can remember being excited about a young ET as well.
