yeah, I know, this has been tossed up A LOT !!!
We (Parra) have been chasing an experienced half to partner Morts.
Yes, I do think that given another year or two, he will be great.
Look at how the Roosters have stuck with Pearce over the last 3 years. He had moments of brilliance, but plenty of times of ordinary performances too, but under Brian Smith, especially partnered with Todd Carney (and with Anasta at 5/8), he is flourishing.
The same I think will be with Morts.
In Toyota Cup he was quite good, especially when he was partnered with Trent Hodgkinson.
Robbo is a good steady influence for him, but as for being a creative and attacking half who can stamp himself on a game, Robinson is NOT that half. Robbo is a GREAT defensive half, but that is the highlight of his game. His short kicking game is good, but not brilliant.
THe half we need is someone who can order and direct the attack and can make his stamp on a game.
Robbo back to hooker maybe, but that's for another posting!!!
As for searching for a player like Brent Sherwin .. PLEASE NO !!!
The guy is way past his best.
Barrett ... also past his prime and ready to retire.
Kimmorley .... still capeable, but past his best days, possibly the best of the "experinced" options.
Cronk .... well, if Melbourne get off their butts and the NRL grow some balls and deliver a deadline to get the team under the cap for 2011, a player like Cronk MAY BE on the market.
Cronk is young and talented and with Morts at 5/8 they can make a deadly team.
But who else is on the market for us to buy?
I am not sure.
If anyone else knows any better, I would be happy to know.
Cause this ole boy is wondering where we will go for next year, other than more of the same!
trying to keep it real!!
