A tragic story of a former Drgon

I went to primary and high school with his son and Sandra is still a teacher there I think. Never met him much but man it really must have progressed a lot in the last 10 years. AFAIK he had no symptoms when we were in our teens (15 - 20 years ago). I did run into his son in Jan 2024 and asked him how his Dad was and all he said was 'not good'. Seems like he has deteriorated a lot since even then. Must be horrible for their family.

He had a room pretty much dedicated to all his rugby league stuff, including his St George jersey framed on the wall and another one, presumably City Country.

This is a very sad story that affects many people, what is the NRL doing for starters. Then the Dragons and the Newcastle Rugby League.
There should be a massive outcry for allowing this situation to happen without out any support from the League across many levels. Trevor’s is one story there will be more as time goes on, action is required now.

Even in pro MMA there has been a move away from heavy sparring. But you still see idiots tapping away at their own chins in the belief that you can "toughen up" your jaw, when in fact every injury just makes you more susceptible to another.

I love rugby league and have nothing but the upmost respect for these warriors that put there bodies on the line to give us entertainment. This is just tragic.

Dementia robs you of all your self respect and values
My old man died suffering dementia. It was not induced by CTE.
Caring for Dad almost killed Mum
It fell on me to transport him to full time care.
Only time I ever saw him cry when I told him he wasn't going home (Not so bluntly). Broke my heart
It is an insipid, miserable end, that is undeserved.

The NRL needs to do something to assist these ex-players and their families to manage their lives in situations like this.

They simply cannot continue to bury their heads in the sand or just pick and choose the things they want to support.

It's just not good enough...
With all due respect I don’t think the NRL have buried their heads in the sand , far from it. Rule changes for one.

I don't disagree but I think they could do more to help sufferers and their families like this case for example.

The game is generating lots of profit and without the players they would not.

This story and others like it would serve as a deterrent to young players and their families from getting involved in the first place.
