A Warriors haka?

i dont see the harm in the Warriors having they're own Haka. I know there are super rugby sides who have they're own ones written for them.

its a great tool for bringing the team closer together... and being Australian is no reason for the players not to be able to perform it.

performing it before each game is f**king stupid... that has to be the dumbest idea ive heard in awhile.

do it like the chiefs... keep it completely in house... the chiefs only bring it out if they are given a Powhiri(traditional maori welcome) somewhere... or after they won the title.

other than that... keep it in house...

I agree having some sort of a team anthem or something that all players can relate to is good. Not sure it would need to be a haka, maybe something in English and more relatable for non-Maori or even non-Kiwi players.
Definitely not to perform it before games, that is showboating rather than team bonding.

If a group of Maori performers do a haka before games, that's cool, but I don't think it's fair to expect all players to do it and embrace it if it's not part of their culture.

Personally I see no value in cheerleaders or drumming or haka, but if management feel these things add to the spectator experience and helps maximize fan engagement, then let them go for it.

I believe Owen Glenn lives overseas, permanently? This idea of his ties in with what a lot of ex-pat Kiwis get up to - they overdo the kiwiana to compensate for no longer having the day-to-day experience of living in NZ.

Even on the streets of Sydney you see some ridiculous displays of nationalism - just the other day I saw someone head to toe in national rugby gear.

A haka before every Warriors NRL match? I fear it would be like the Kiwis many a time before a game with the Kangaroos - all haka and no football. But at least the Kiwis are a national side.

I blame O'G's 'bright ideas' and lack of lucidity on the fact he was born in India - too hot and spends most of his life in the sun. Unless I'm mistaken it's a long time since he lived long term in NZ. Can't we just have a team/ club song like any other normal sporting franchaise & keep the Haka for worthy celebrations - like a Grand Effing Final

Dumb idea. Save it for the national team or it just becomes a boring weekly thing the team does.

Is this planned for the field or the pre-game dressing room.

Can you imagine the 1/2 arsed effort non-Kiwis would put in?

lol totally. This is the gist of the conversations I've had with expats during my travels overseas... Them: "I love NZ so much. I'm so proud of my Kiwi 'heritage'(translation: the Haka, the All Blacks, Dave Dobbin & the Lord of the Rings). What's that? Do I plan to actually ever live there again? ....ummmm."

This haka idea is cringe-worthy. All I care about is watching the league & seeing how my club goes. I'm not interested in, nor do I need to know who the owners are or what their opinions are.

And anyway, the Warriors club already has a solid culture surrounding around it. It's been built gradually by loyal fans who have stuck with the club over a period of nearly 20 years and a core group of players & coaching staff who have given their all. That's the only kind of culture a club needs, not something convoluted that gets tacked on to the beginning of games.

Yes to the Haka, lets take it to the next level. Blend it in with the drums and a few angry maori girls in bikini`s..... now that would be something...

Seems that OG has forgotten that we are on an 8 NRL game losing streak.
Would be pretty stupid if we did a haka before losing 45-4 at home to Cronulla.

wow. I agree with Ozbash.

Emphatic no to players doing a haka.

Wouldn't have a problem to a very good kapa haka group greeting the opposition team with a heavy dose of hostility as they run out.

You're right Shiznit. A haka might be appropriate when something significant happens, when the moment demands it e.g. that Cheifs title you mentioned.
