If Watson ever gets fit id give him an extended crack at no.5, move Clarke to no.4 with Hussey down to no.6.

I wasn't overly impressed with Macdonald's bowling today. He needs another 5-10km to really test batsmen, though his trajectory is good. In saying that, that wicket looks extremely flat. Hauritz and Siddle were confidently playing the potent Saffer quicks off the front foot.

Im warming to the idea of giving North a crack at no.6 with his offies and then play four pacemen.

I heard stuart Macgill say the other night that greg mathews thinks North is the best off spinner in the country.

Nothing wrong with playing all rounder, if we ever get a good one again.

I agree, the problem is that the Australian selectors seem determined to manufacture a test allrounder. I cannot understand why. None of the candidates I have seen, aside from Watson who is always hurt, look like genuine test allrounders. I have actually been embarrassed for Macdonald at times during this test.

It's like Freddie Flintoff's performance in the 2005 Ashes has damaged the Australian cricket psyche and now you guys feel you need to play an allrounder, even though during your successful era of the last decade and a half you never really played one.

Johnson is an all-rounder. A bowling all-rounder is still an all-rounder. How long until Johnson is Australia's best cricketer?

Greg Matthews has been reading my posts. Mind you I don't think he's the best in the country, just that there aren't any that are worth playing that can bat as well as he can.

I've got the Aussie selectors reading mine... I had this current test XI picked before the squad was even announced. ;-)

This really makes the baggy green look bad. Giving people who play like sh*t the cap is plotless. Just makes the baggy green another piece of worthless junk. Leave it to the guys who are either good, or will play for a while.

saying he's the best doesnt mean he's good though, he's just the best of a bad bunch.

Mcdonald may gave improved his batting ,whats interesting though is that he only has 2 first class centuries in 44 matches. Thats just not good enough for someone coming in at no.6 for Australia. Meanwhile North has 22 FC centuries. It was a baffling descion to send him in before Haddin IMO.

Then why not next time pick a good squad for them?

I thought he bowled alright today.

He certainly did his job, that being to keep it tight on a benign track that has nothing in it.

I hope the selectors keep him around for the one dayers and give him a decent shot rather than continually chopping and changing.

So bowling meduim pace gun barrel straight is bowling well? Huh..he is useless and too slow for test cricket. Johnson is the all-rounder and unless Watson is fit there is no need to play an ordinary all rounder!

He had a job to do and he did it.

Every bowler bowled it gun barrel straight on that wicket today.

There's nothing in the pitch, and there was next to no breeze out there today.

I also think we do need an allrounder as our bowling attack is paper thin.

6 batsman, 4 bowlers, I'm not sure that works when one of those bowlers is a spinner who averages nearly 50 in first class cricket, and two rookie fast bowlers.

McDonald has ALWAYS bowled gun barrel straight..we should have played Hilfenhaus OR if they really wanted an all-rounder/batsmen as that is all McDonald is, then Marcus North is a much better option. In fact on the SCG it would have made more sense to play North who has got Shield wickets this year on that ground with his spinners, yet they play a meduim pace Shaun Young clone who is very ordinary with both bat and ball. We need to take wickets, not tie down an end for 2 days!
