Aboriginals in Victory Cup

BARLA is supporting the Australian Indigenous RL Aboriginal Corporation (AIRLIC) in a bid to play in the Victory Cup.
It's common sense that Australia be represented at the Victory Cup as a WWII ally and the Aboriginal team is a perfect team to send.
The tounament could have 8 teams next year if they are invited along with Serbia. This is more good news for a great international RL event. One issue might be funding, but hopefully that can be overcome.

I hope they go. They will help raise the standard to a new level and get increased coverage of this event in Australia.

The Australian Aboriginal u23s beat BARLA 50-24 in Gunnedah yesterday to win the Perpetual Trophy for the first time. It was 24-nil after about 20 mins before the Poms came back to trail 30-16 at halftime. The indigenous side were too good in the latter stages and with far more possession turned chances into points regularly. They were ecstatic with the win, while the Poms were disappointed with the local ref and their opening to the match. They looked quite good when they hung onto the ball, but dropped it far too often, espacially in their own half, and let in a few soft tries. Halfback Peter Taylor and forwards Matt Watton, Justin Miller, Jobe Patten and Brooke Mills were the Aboriginals' best and Terry Lynn, Ashley Lindsey and captain Tommy Goulden tried hard for the Poms. It would be hard for the Aboriginal team to travel to Russia, but this win shows they'd be competitive.

Scoreboard
AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL U23's v BARLA BRITISH LIONS
Kitchener Oval, Gunnedah
AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL U23's 50 (Moses Alone 2, Peter Taylor 2, Casey Conway, Desi Madden, Phil Purukamu, Justin Miller, Matt Rose tries, Taylor 7gls) d BARLA BRITISH LIONS 24 (Chris Lee, Terry Lynn, Gary Weymes, David Price, Lee Wingfield tries, Carl Rudd 2gls).

Good to see Jobe doing well, he along with his brother Guy have a lot of talent and Jobe in particular would be handy in the NRL. He played in the lower grades at the Tigers (if my memory serves me right) a few years back before getting homesick for the Hunter.

An Aboriginal tour of Russia was last raised early last year and I feel that it will happen, it's just that the fianances have to be developed in order to make it a reality. That however looks to be coming together.
