BunniesMan is right. 287 kicks is a good sample size You can quibble about it being easier to kick goals today. I don't doubt this is true. Nonetheless Reynolds is dominating his peers in an era when goal-kicking is more professionalised than it's ever been.

Great point, but Irvine was a winger and he has 212 tries, but I get your meaning,he would be Souths greatest winger and top 2 or 3 ever,I don't think so..

thread is not complete until the great 100% kickers from up north are mentioned. Paul Bowman/Paul Rauhihi > Reynolds

It's not like saying that at all. It's easy to compare gold kickers from different clubs because there are no other variables to consider other than goal kicking. This is very different to a category such as "best winger of all time" where you have to factor in many things.

No its like saying Merritt is one of the greatest try scorers of all time, which is the truth.

See; try scoring, goal kicking is an objective measure. Best winger ever; subjective.

Try scoring ability is objective. If you said he has scored the most tries in souffs history then that can be measured through metrics.

He is in the top 10 try scorers of all time. Therefore he is one of the best try scorers of all time :?

He is top 10 in tries scored. He isn't even close to being one the best try scorers.

One is quantitative the other is qualitative

I don't think try-scoring is 'objective' to the extent you are saying it is, because you have to factor it the people around him, long jeopardy, type of tries scored, etc. Merrit is (was?) one of the best finishers of all time l would say. One among many though.

Sure it is. Some wingers consistently score trys all off their own back and others (like Merrit) are notorious for simply getting handed the ball in good position and falling over the line. f**k it I could score 95% of the trys Merrit has.

Manu Vatuvei is a case and point, he has about 125 tries from 178 games, but i doubt anyone apart geniused Warriors fanboi's would think he's a great winger, hell depending on the day he's lucky to be considered competent, yet the tries are on the board.
