Purtell tries hard and often finds himself in the right position to score a try off other peoples hard work. But he really doesn't offer much more then that. Any winger who is willing to support would score the same tries.

He would probably be good to have around for depth only. The trouble is that both Panthers coaches picked him ahead of better players and refused to drop him regardless of how badly he played. Meanwhile other players are dropped for games which were better then what he was showing. That's what bothers me most about him being at the Panthers... the fact that he holds better players back.

But honestly I think it's just dumbass coaches. Steve Georgallis initially selected Shane Elford to replace Michael Jennings on the weekend. He had played about 2 or 3 games for Windsor all year, wasn't close to match fit and is likely to retire at the end of the year. He then did his hammy at training and was replaced with a player who should have been ahead of him anyway.

Purtell is a champion bloke, one of the real nice guys of RL. Loves a drinks, loves to have fun but always shows up to training, looks after himself for his club and has good mannered fun.
