Let's work our way backwards here.

Before I dive into it, 18,000+ at the O2 arena made for a wonderful atmosphere so hats off to AEW and the fans who made the show enjoyable.

So in the main event we had the Lights Out Steel Cage 10 Man Tag Team match. That's a lot of action and it went as expected, just a fun hodge podge of WarGames type spots. You had some comedy with the babyfaces talking Tanahashi off the ladder and the production guys screwing with the Bucks. You also had some gruesome hardcore stuff with Moxley going all Resevoir Dogs on Darby. There were the big dives with Darby taking Kidd through the tables on the outside and Ospreay taking a big dive off the top of the cage. It didn't set the world on fire, but as a main event for an international audience it certainly delivered and in a nice gesture Tanahashi scores the winning pinfall in his quote-on-quote final match in the UK.

The big talking point coming out of the match was the post-match beatdown where the Death Riders Pillmanized Ospreay's neck. Now I don't think it was necessary but obviously it was to get some heat on the Death Riders and to ensure the fans they're not going anywhere. I think you could have easily had Ospreay ride off into the sunset, but they decided to get some heat out of the situation.

Hangman retained his match against MJF in a match that featured a ton of shenanigans. Going into the match, I thought Hangman would deliver MJF the ultimate comeuppance not only retaining in this match but also in the subsequent rematch but they didn't go that far with it. Instead MJF tried to get Hangman DQ'd but Hangman didn't fall for it. I like details so spots like MJF positioning himself awkwardly for the Buckshot or Hangman humping MJF's head like MJF does when he's on the top rope was nice. Otherwise not a ton to this and I thought the stuff with Bryce was a little awkward. Bryce counting three but falling unconcious before he could signal to ring the bell didn't quite land and I thought the Briscoe stuff could have been better. Still, the finish was emphatic the fans got right into Hangman and that's the good stuff right there.

I liked that spot in Athena-Storm with the barricade. Athena sends Storm into the barricade to destroy the graphic, only for Storm to return the favour and getting working again. Otherwise this seemed to be Athena on top for the majority, Toni selling, Mina Shirakawa running interference to chase Billie Starkz out and straight into the finish with Toni turning the Eclipse into a Chicken Wing. I feel like they could have a better match and I just wonder if this was the opportunity to put Athena over, establish her and getting Toni chasing again.

Apparantly I'm the only person who wasn't aware that Swerve was due for surgery so I thought this was a real 50/50. In the end, Swerve hurt his knee, Okada took advantage and won a fairly competitive back and forth match. After the match Wardlow returned, wiped out Nana and all the security to reveal he's now with Don Callis. It seemed like the show felt like they needed another surprise return so they cobbled up Wardlow but I'm not sure if he's a good fit for Don Callis and co.

The three-way fell apart in the end. The Gates of Agony interfered and took the champions out of the equation. Then Bandido hit this awkward looking belly flop on Dax, Dax kicked out at 2, but then Bandido covers again and Cash couldn't make the save and we have new champions. Shocking result, but the finish looked like they flubbed it.

In the technical bout of the night Zack Sabre Jr got the better of a determined Nigel McGuinness. I enjoyed that Zack Sabre Jr was largely in control for the majority of the match but McGuinness held his own. It wasn't your turn my turn, it was largely ZSJ in control and Nigel doing his best to keep up. This is one of the matches I want to revisit.

The one match that had the biggest uphill battle was the women's four-way and I thought they did a good job. Yes they relied on some of the tropes so you had the tower spot but as a showcase for Bozilla and Persephone I thought it worked and got both ladies over.

Fletcher-Takahashi really kicked the show up a notch and was another impressive showcase for Fletcher. I think the challenge for Fletcher is trying to find him a rivalry similar to the one he had with Ospreay. I think he has all the tools but I think he needs something he can sink his teeth into because he should be groomed for that main event slot.

I enjoyed the opener and thought it was placed perfectly. Metalingus still gets a great reaction from the crowd and I enjoyed the character work with Christian still being a dick and refusing to take the harder fight with Killswitch. I think the result was expected, but it was a good way to engage the crowd.

All in all, a fun show that would have been a blast to be in attendance. Nothing I feel you have to go out of your way to see, but if you want a nice sample size of what AEW is about than you can't go wrong watching this.

@Valheru - could AEW do anything more to butter you up?

At least they sent him to a Roosters game, imagine sending him to a 2025 Newcastle game. 🤢
Completely missed this

I am actually going though, looking forward to it although I know less than 0 about the product. What should I be looking out for?

Are you going to the Brisbane show?

How was it? Looks like they put on a pretty decent show for Sydney.

I completely forgot about it. Apparently, they were giving away tickets but I already had other plans.

The show was very good. The crowd was a bit disappointing TBH, it holds 18k and I couldn't say there was more than 10k there so not sure if they will be back. The crowd was a loud and vocal one though.

They started with 4 ROH dark matches which felt like it all went a little long. Two would have been more than enough for me, especially for someone not familiar with the product. Still, the work was good in those 4 matches and a decent portion of the crowd seemed to know who the workers were.

The main show started with Jon Moxley vs Konosuke Takeshita. This was sensational and IMO Jon Moxley was the best performer on the show. His entrance form the crowd was fire and he oozes charisma. The work in the ring was very good although the non finish limited it to 4 stars for me. A personal dislike of mine is mentioning the time limit at the start of the match because it always gives the draw away and things felt flatter than they should have been because of that.

Babes of Wrath vs Megabad after that for the women's tag titles. This was good and a nice showcase of the 4 workers. Megan Bayne looks and absolute monster and could be anything in the industry. Work was standard TV stuff throughout for a 3 star affair

Andrade vs Hangman next for title shot at Revolution. Don Callis came out and easily had the most heat of anyone on the night. He gave it back to the crowd and really go the energy up. This was all Andrade who worked extremely hard whilst Hangman just went through the motions. 3 stars

Orange Cassidy and Toni Storm vs Yuta and Marina (tornado tag & loser of the fall loses their hair). I really enjoyed this one. A bit spotty but it delivered exactly what it promised to. Toni Storm was massively over and Yuta pile driving her in the crowd was amazing. The inter gender violence was on point and a different spin to any mixed tag I've ever seen, Orange in particular sold to Marina like she was Chyna. Really good back and forward most fo the way with crowd interactions. Yuta got pinned and had to have his hair shaved. He refused and Moxley made him do it. 4.25 stars for blowing off a storyline as promised.

Kyle Fletcher vs Mark Briscoe in a ladder match for TNT title next. Match of the night, this was incredible. Fletcher was pumped to be in Sydney and Briscoe worked his ass off to. Crazy spot after crazy spot with juice as well. The very last spot was kind of disappointing due to everything else that had happened prior and time constraints meant they couldn't really tell a story so 4.5 stars

MJF vs Brody King for the title to finish. Unfortunately this one really fell flat for me and the rest of the crowd. In hindsight the ladder match should have main evented. They tried to tell a psychological story but there was too much stalling and not enough bumps. The fact Hangman won earlier also kind of gave away the result. The finish was very ho hum as well. 2 stars.

Overall, a very good show and worth the price of admission. I would give it a solid 8/10, couldn't ask for a whole lot more for a show in Australia.

For the Sydney ROH matches we got AEW TV talent including Mina Shirakawa, Skye Blue & Julia Hart and Mark Davis (all taking on local Aussie independent wrestlers). It was nice to see some additional TV talent in person.

The ladder match (and brain buster off the top of the ladder) was insane! Kyle Fletcher was super over in his hometown. His chat with the crowd at the end was nice and he mentioned they'll be back again next year - I guess Melbourne will host it and surely they pack it out?

Overall it was a great show and very entertaining. The crowd seemed to love it too!

Sounds like a good time.

It's just a shame that AEW didn't promote the shows better. I think the casual Australian fan would actually enjoy AEW more than WWE if they were aware of it.

That's why I was so disappointed that they moved away from Suncorp. Even if they started giving tickets away, you could have at least cultivated an audience down here and encouraged the hardcore fans to invite their mates. It's not like TK couldn't afford to eat the loss.

Revolution on Monday.

Stacked ten match card as you'd come to expect from AEW.

In the main event, the two guys who kicked off AEW will meet in a Texas Death match. I'll be shocked if MJF retains here. Seems like it's set up for him to put over Hangman and set Page up for a match against Swerve.
