AFB/BHU the swap is on

There's even a story for anyone who can access the Herald

Cronulla face a major fight to keep prop Braden Hamlin-Uele after the Warriors offered him a three-year deal worth almost $2.2 million to join the club from 2025.
The 29-year-old has offers from the Warriors and the Sharks, with the New Zealand club’s deal of more than $700,000 a season the most lucrative of the two. Hamlin-Uele’s contract expires at the end of this season.

The Warriors have targeted Hamlin-Uele as the future leader of their forward pack following incumbent prop Addin Fonua-Blake’s decision to join the Sharks, on compassionate grounds, from next year until the end of 2028.
The Sharks have also signed fellow prop forward Toby Rudolf until the end of 2026, but the club believes there is room for all three middle forwards.

Cronulla made their offer to Hamlin-Uele weeks ago, well before they beat St George Illawarra in the race to sign Fonua-Blake.

I rate him highly but the issue is his injuries. I would love to keep him. They could have Hunt. Warriors chased BHU the last 2 times he was off contract and if you look at the market he is the best available.

It was always going to be imposssible to keep BHU in this current market. Terrell May is asking for 500k FFS

While I like BHU I don't see him as a 700k player if AFB is reportedly going to be on 950k. Massive upgrade for 250k imo. Based on what Jack bought to the table last year I'd be happy to resign him. Can see him really benefitting from playing off the back of AFB's momentum in '25.

I would let him go
We have coming through ranks Hazelton, Colquhoun, and Bradbury
Rudolf, Kaufisi, Hunt even Williams could fight for other starting prop.
This is just me and depending on how he plays this season for just 2025 why not see if we can get JWH before retires

What is the salary cap this year?

I feel like it's gone up so much maybe 750K is the new 550K?

I thought it was pretty telling Fitzgibbon re-signed Toby while the club was in the middle of negotiating with AFB.

I'd like to keep him but as K said the issue is injuries. He's a player who needs to string 3 or 4 games together to hit his straps but has struggled to do that the last few years.

Our middles without him still look healthy:

AFB, Toby, Kafusi, Hunt, Hazleton, Jack Williams even Jesse.

BHU has the ability to be great but I can count on 1 hand how many $550k quality games he has had.

That's my issue with him.
It's in there somewhere but, 100 games in, it should be on display more often than not.
Not disappointed to lose him in the least.

As others have said, we have a stack coming through.
I'm hoping Tommy can keep on the same trajectory as he was last year.
If he does he's as automatic pick in the 17 each week.

Toby will always start as he's the grunt work.
And Williams was our second best forward behind Nikora, so he gets a spot.
For me, it's one of either BHU or Royce for the other middle. They both have it in them, but need to show it more often and for more minutes each week.

Royce still has another year so I'm happy to keep him and wave goodbye to BHU.
It wouldn't make sense to release Royce and extend BHU only to release BHU down the track.
So let him go now, and Royce seriously needs to lift his game if he's any chance of an extension.

Throw in the fact Tuku Hau Tapuha is reportedly training the house down and it really is game on for spots in the middle.

Finally.

Frenzy.

Very keen on watching this blokes progress.
