AFB requests immediate release on compassionate grounds

Warriors should tell him to get stuffed

He asked for a release from Manly because he “had to get out of Sydney”, now he needs a release to get back to Sydney.

The reality of the first move was that he had done a dodgy deal for big $$$ while still under contract, and this will probably be the same scenario

There was also some pretty untidy stuff going on behind the scenes in Sydney with him as well

yeah if I was management I’d be scrutinising his situation pretty hard. If it’s genuine then make sure they come out of it with some advantage- preferably a hefty transfer fee, and the Warriors certainly shouldn’t be paying him anything for the rest of his contract.

Yeah I’ve heard those stories, I work with ex-manly players so have some inside lines on stuff there. Was pretty grubby

This has ruined by 2024 before it even started! Warriors will be mud without this guy.

Seriously though this is why we need to develop pur to win players or sign guys with genuine roots in NZ- otherwise we get used for a year or two and bailed on when players feel like they’re in demand and can fetch good $$ back in Aus.

You grudgingly accept this shit happening when your club is at the wrong end of the table and being poorly run. But when your team just come out of a season of near record crowds, run 4th and finished one game from the GF and have created a nationwide buzz around them and players are still trying to wriggle out of contracts it’s a huge kick in the guts.

No. We have him. Locked in for 3 years. Bulldogs dont have shit. Sydneys a 3 hour flight and Warriors are there every 2nd weekend. Contract needs to mean something. These NRL players are pulling this shit all the time now.

Manly had him locked in long term as well, until he was offered more money by the Warriors, unfortunately means absolutely nothing these days

Yeah… this is pretty shit. Unless he goes to the panthers for fisher Harris, broncos for haas or storm for NAS, this is a huge, huge downgrade.

we are thin on props as it is. Bit of a nail in the 2024 season.

Warriors need to play hard ball here and not let him leave without a deal that gets us a world class prop replacement. We can’t head into 2024 minus the dally m prop when we are already light on forwards.

Is there a replacement off contract?

Didn’t he come here on compassionate grounds? Hard to let him claim compassionate grounds to go right back the same way!

If he goes, we better be getting paid rather than us paying any part of his new contract. At the very least we need to come out of this with a massive war chest.

To be expected, is he the last holdover from George and Sullivan's buy up all the dickheads policy. I guess all his gangster mates are locked up now so his missus is ok with him back in Sydney.

Big loss on the field but I'm glad I no longer have to cheer for him.

Yeah I remember when he was signed I had a lot of misgivings on character grounds. But he’s kept his nose clean and delivered on the field so up until now the signing had obviously proved a good one.

Curren and AFB within a week. WOW!!!
If the club had any knowledge of this then Curren stays no doubt.

He wont stay. Once compassionate grounds is mentioned then they are as good as gone.
I just hope the club say we will release you but only if a good replacment comes up, like they told RTS ehrn hr wanted out

Who knows what's really going on inside his head but the fact is he's currently in the UK, with all those Tongan-turncoat mates, and we can only imagine how they're all carrying on.

It makes me feel a bit sick but I should butt out I suppose, as it's 'compassionate'.
