They went okay, but on the strength of play they really should have won by a heftier margin. The signs were good overall, and I was generally happy enough, but I strongly suspect the side still lacks the killer instinct that I'd like to see.

I've been highly critical of the Hawks players commitment in the past, you know that well but if they keep Everitt on the field (Lets see if Staff can clean him up again in a few weeks
) they are going to go a hell of alot closer to Schwaby's prediction than most think.
You, critical??!! You are correct in identifying Everitt (surely the game's numero uno ruckman) as the key player in the overall Hawk equation, and I wouldn't like to see him out of commission for any extended period. Of course, it doesn't matter a toss how good your ruckman is if your midfielders are crap, and the roster of Crawford, Mitchell, Vandenburg & Lekkas appear capable of exploiting his deft work effectively.
The side is beautifully balanced, but I'll reserve judgement on them for a few weeks yet. Port in Adelaide, and Brisbane at the Gabba always loomed large as the toughest tests we'd face this year and we've got both of these games scheduled in for the next month. Mind you, given the Kangaroos showing on the weekend, the side wouldn't want to be looking ahead any further than this weekend.
