WooHoo

Rake that Collingwood. Despite being on the recieving end of some sh*t umpiring Essendon went bloody well tonight. Fletcher is unbelievable, he is just awesome still. Our midfield played well, jobe watson continues to improve. Both Johnsons were excellent, lovett murray was great, peverill etc. Couldnt find a bad player for Essendon.

Shows what happens when you underestimate a team doesn't it!

"See the Bombers fly up!"

No, it shows the power of Kev's "Lock of the round"

I'm sure he's 0-19

By the way go CARLTON tommorrow!

Note: Sydney showed their class today. They are better than last year!

Good win to Essendon, who appear to be finding some form late. I'm hoping they win one more game (but not next week) so that they can exit the priority pick zone. Geez didn't Collingwood serve up rubbish though!

I didn't catch any of the Tigers game last night, but 82pts is a big result (regardless of the opposition) and it keeps their finals hopes flickering.

Likely losses to St Kilda and Fremantle today will open up the bottom half of the eight, when it looked all but slammed shut last week.

I did catch a bit of the Sydney game, with the Swans doing enough to confirm why they are my new flag favourite.

I watched most of the West Coast game and think that it wouldn't surprise to see a repeat of last year's decider. The Kangaroos gave it their best shot, but lack sufficient run and class across the park.

It was interesting that the Kangaroos best period corresponded with the Eagles having both key forwards off the park (which just further underlines my point about forwards winning matches). Hansen is unlikely to play again until the finals, but I have been impressed by the marked improvement in Quentin Lynch (who prior to this season, I had written off as a spud).

Kerr was exceptional again yesterday (definitely a better player than Judd) and with Cousins added some real polish (again) when it was needed. Judd got plenty of the ball without doing much with it (as usual) and managed to beef up his stats with a few return volley short handball sessions with various teammates. He is bloody fast though and that good looking running style would probably have got him another 3 Brownlow votes.

Yet again we got a reminder of how important Cox is to the side. He will get better, but was quite good on return from an extended injuty lay off and will give the side a huge finals boost. The Eagles would be no chance without him, and while Kerr & Cousins are the Eagles best and most damaging players, its clear that Cox is their most important.

Jeez..Carlton FFS! Adelaide are falling now. I agree with Kev, Sydney are the team to beat. But Kev..you just can't lay off the Judd bagging even though he was probally Best on Ground!

Well, happy to see my first Hawthorn Foxtel game end up in a win.

Looked as if it was going to be a massacre at halftime, with the Blues eight goals down and very lucky to be that close, with Hawthorn's wasteful forward possession, the usual 6-goal opposition headstart with umpiring, and the Blues kicking a few freak goals, it was still game on.

Predictably, the Hawks tired from making all the hard play and running when the game was up for grabs and Carlton, to its credit, worked overtime to get back into the game. Fevola was sensational with 8 goals against Croad, despite the latter not playing too badly. You'd hate to think about what the result could have been without Fev on the park, what a top footballer.

Special mention to Buddy Franklin, who also put in a big game with 6 goals for the winners.

Elsewhere, St Kilda and Fremantle came up with big wins to close the door on another pair of finals places. The Saints are playing bravely and, while the Cats are still technically alive, they don't deserve to get there and almost certainly won't.

Freo are the form side of the competition at the moment and have been superb over the past six weeks. They're pretty much at full strength and have lifted their workrate and game style significantly. They deserve their spot and it looks as if Mark Harvey will have to wait another year (at least) for his head job. Assuming Essendon don't go for the switch at season's end.

I was just making a point that you have neatly underscored.

He was NOT best on ground!

Kerr was easily the best player on the paddock, with Cousins not far behind.

Judd had 33 possessions and only about 3 of them made life uncomfortable for the Kangaroos. Many of them, as I mentioned, came as a result of sessions where he would piece about 3-4 short handballs together with a teammate in a row, before invariably kicking to a contest where the ball would turnover for the Kangaroos.

Kerr and Cousins are both better players than Judd as they use the ball so much better.

Judd will probably get another 3 votes despite deserving none, simply because he looks good running, but again its Kerr and Cousins that add the genuine polish to most Eagle forays forward.

For me, the best thing about the weekend bar Liverpool teaching Chelsea a lesson was Richo once again proving the champion he is.

Anyone, no fingers pointing at posters here of course  .... who claims Richo can't play for another 3-4 years needs to go back and have a look at him running 2 players, 10 years his junior around the park on Saturday night.

He can clearly get another two years out of the legs, then could spend another 2 in the goal square.

This is why West Coast are so hard to beat though, Judd usually takes the top tagger, leaving Cousins and then Kerr to take #2 & #3 - For mine, you are better off tagging Kerr out of the game, and sending a run with player with Judd. Let him have his 30-40 possessions, but hurt them going the other way with his unaccountable defensive game.

Similar sort of thing to what Richmond did when playing Joel Bowden on Buckley about 5-6 years ago. Both had 30 possessions, but Richmond won the game not worrying about tagging Buckley, but tagging the inside mids instead.

Agree entirely with everything you say.

I hope you're right, but stand by my claim that Richo will not be on the Tiger list come 2009.

He'll have the odd game like Saturday night, but he'll also have more where he struggles. He will also miss more and more games with niggling injuries which will help accelerate his decline.

Richmond have to move Richo to the square from next season and push hard to develop a younger alternative at CHF.

Whatever they get from Richo from here-on-in will be a bonus, but they don't want to be like Essendon with Hird, and begging him to play on because they haven't generated a capable alternative over recent years.

With all due respect Kev (& yes my post was aimed squarely at you ;-) ) what niggling injuries has Richo had this year?

Other than his broken wrist which could hardly be seen as 'niggling' Richo has been a pillar of health this year.

Saturday night showed how good the man can be when his delivery is good.

Hmmm ... Ive got it on good authority this is a certainty now.

The draft pick would be a second rounder, but what player would Richmond be able to give up that Brisbane would want, I wonder?
