Aitken Re-Signs With Dragons

The St George Illawarra Dragons have announced centre Euan Aitken has re-signed with the club for a further three seasons.

The Scottish international will remain at the Dragons at least until the end of the 2020 Telstra Premiership season.

"The St George Illawarra Dragons have been a good club to me. I've been here through all my junior years and come through the ranks to now first grade," Aitken said.

"It was an easy decision to re-sign for a further three years, I really enjoy it here and I really like the direction the Club is heading and I want to be a part of it".

A graduate of the Dragons' junior representative and Holden Cup teams, Aitken made his debut in Round 3, 2015 and has played 45 NRL games to date.

The Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs junior also made his Country Origin debut in 2016 and played for Scotland at the recent Four Nations tournament in the United Kingdom.

Dragons Director of Rugby League Pathways Ian Millward said Aitken's retention was crucial for the future success of the Club.

"It's always exciting when one of your own re-signs, especially a player and person like Euan," Millward said.

"He's only a young man who in two years has made his representative debut. He's a player that everyone loves playing with and he'll only improve.

"He's also one of the fittest players in our club and a player who we see will lead the way in future years. We're very excited for Euan."

Great news, considering he's still only 21, his best footy is still in front of him. Interesting that he mentions having Ben hunt at the club next year in the video, which shows that signing hunt will have more rewards than just what's on the field, it's a reason for others to sign also. He also doesn't mention the coaching of Mary as a reason for the resigning...

Interesting.

Wonder what their plan is for Aitken going forward. Is he a long term centre? What about Duges, given both their preferred position is right centre?

Certainly an interesting signing given Duges remain unsigned.

Great news.

You can't have too many quality players imo.

It will be interesting to see which position he settles in long term.

I know he has played wing a few times and his ability to leap for the high ball needs some work.

I think if he can develop the necessary skills that he could be a great replacement for flo.

Similar work ethic, just keeps going and is a real fighter.

Top qualities.

Great news! Now the pressure is off and the contenders for a centre position can be picked on form.

Good signing. I remember the City-Country game from last year. He and JDB both had blinders. Just showed what they can do with a decent coach.

We have had a generation of fans and players lost through incompetence and lack of vision... perhaps the tide has turned, maybe seeing the 'nrl abyss' has frightened the hell out of some.. and was the catalyst for change.

The obvious retention plan for our 'juniors' as a priority and now 'heritage' .. what it means to wear the 'Big Red V'.. are two progressive steps... and I don't think it's any coincidence that Coyne is back in the fold.

"St George Illawarra are teaching a history lesson to the kids.

With the Dragons’ juniors not around during the glory days, the club has been taking the message to their junior clubs about what the Red V stands for and its rich history.

The presentation was devised to educate the local products of the success the club has tasted and expectations on players who could progress through the ranks.''

Maybe, just maybe, the stench is slowly starting to lift.. And the signing of these good local talents who 'understand' the jersey will ultimately help lead us out of the nrl wilderness on a permanent basis.

Why Mann? If he can play halves well, that would be great. If not, NSW Cup player. haven't seen enough of Milne yet either.
Mann can play multiple positions wing, centre, fullback and halves. He is still only 23 years old and i think he did very well on the wing last year when given the chance. He also did well at the storm when he played centre with his only real issue being his weight NOT talent. I would definately keep him in the red V. As for Milne i watched him closely when he played last year and i think his a gun.
