Alex Chan. Any Good?

Had a tendancy to go high in the tackles, hence a bit of a bad record with the judicary.
A solid hard running player, not a stand out but gets the job done. If he can keep his tackles below the shoulders will be a very handy pick up for the Storm

He's crap. Gives away stupid penalties and is remarkably fragile for a big man. You'll be lucky if you get half a season out of him.

How was Chan when he played for the eels?

IMO I think Alex is a solid first grader when right. Unfortunately for the Eels he became injury prone and we probably didn't see the best of him. The biggest concern I think you have is his age. I think he is close to 30 and as a Prop I would doubt he is going to improve much.

Weakness: Tackling technique
Strengths: Big Step and Offload and he is fairly quick for a big man.

IMO opinion he did not have the ball skills needed by a big bloke who should be able to stand in a tackle and off load.

His offence consisted basically of put your head down and run at the opposition.

He used to drop the ball far too much for my liking.

He went OK for us over the past few years, especially at times when we sorely lacked some go forward. But yeah, he's got a reputation for high shots, and kept breaking his arm I think?

He needs to spend more time on the paddock, not at judiciary or hospital. So if the Storm teach him to go low, and wrap his arm in cotton wool, he should be a solid - if not spectacular - forward down south imo.

Come on gentlemen, Chan was quite a good player. We did however resurrect his career. He owes Smith plenty. If it wasn't for him he would of been a bouncer at the Steyne Hotel in Manly.

Hopefully he can put in a good season or two for us down here in Melbourne.

If he was any good, we would have kept him.

Channy's a terific clubman with a heart of gold! and was given the spot on the bench ahead of Jason Cayless in the 01 grand final.

He's given us 3 years of great service and wish him all the best at the Storm.

As was said earlier, Chan broke his arm 2 -3 times and this reduced his game time considerably. He was a solid back up player we were relying on last season for go-forward, but was always on the injured list. For the small amount of cash we payed him I though he played very well and was a solid, 6/10 player.
Against lesser opposition he would be potentially a pretty good player.

Twizzle we let Chan because he was expendable and possibly because of that salary cap not because he wasn't good. Remember Ian Hindmarsh and Andrew Ryan were they good?? I think yes, again that cap.

Yeah he got that bench spot in the 2001 grand final...

Ben Kennedy, 5 metres from try line, shoulder charge.

And we all know the ending to that sorry story. That type of bonehead mistake summed up his efforts at Parra. A decent player when he was fit, but for every decent moment there'd be one that'd leave you saying 'f**king Chan'.

as per usual, i agree with that. Channy was a real decent bloke, and if he could've stayed on the field more would have shown more brilliance like that try he scored vs the Tigers (away) earlier this year. Pace and Mongrel (onya Jic). If anything Channy will bring mongrel to your pack on the field, and a good laugh to ya's off the field.
In my opinion, not that anyone cares... :D :D he was a big loss to us, so you melbourne buggers better look after him for us. We hillgirls will be down in July to check up on him!!

No matter how he played, Alex Chan was the coolest man in the world! He just needed to go somewhere that suited his personality! :D
