this thread should be locked

its gone past anything useful and its just getting trolled by anti league fans winding people up

Give us some examples of trolling, please,it would help if you could identify the offending posts. Anybody who trolls on a subject like this is a despicable human being. However, it is just as despicable to accuse somebody who disagrees with you of being a troll, without some sort of evidence or cause.

It's not a coincidence that this incident happened under Melbourne's defence.
Questionable tactics have been questioned for years but nothing was done. Time for a hard look at these grapple and wrestle tackles before something like this happens again.

ahhh a voice of reason amongst the madness. Could not agree more with you. Is anyone at all surprises that the club that gave us the chicken wing , the crusher etc has finally given us this ?

It has always been Melbourne pushing the rules to the limit in regards to tackling/ruck slowing techniques.

Nope, Im not surprised one little bit.

Its quite in character for the storm. As was their early adopted, post judiciary statement that they might challenge the suspension.

A club who is driven by a win at all costs mentality to the point of denial of the facts. As evidenced during the salary cap scandal. No morals. No ethics.

lol, ffs get your hand off it, every team and every player at some point has lifted in the tackle. Just sad this one ended in a tragic outcome. Suggest you trying watching the NRL before any further comments or continue to look like fckwits.

re closing this thread and examples of trolling, read Matchballs comments.

I came across this tackle(Alan McMahon Spear/Pile Driving tackle on Mick Ryan from 1979) and thought how did Ryan not end up in a wheelchair- McMahon i understand only received 4 weeks suspension for this tackle??- The suspension should in my view be based on the tackle as it opens a can of worms to whom was to blame for the injury(some could argue all three storm players contributed to the injury and the player themselves or only 3 storm players or just the one were to blame).

If a player says takes the field with unbeknown to them with a hairline jaw fracture and is hit high twice on that area by different players who are both put on report during the game and after the game the player is diagnosed with a fractured/broken jaw then which of the two players are to blame for the fractured/broken jaw?? does the judiciary apportionate the injury 50% to each player??- the same for a player hit high who when falling traps their leg/foot under another defender and in the process suffers a season ending ACL- is the player charged also responsible for the ACL injury and will be given additional weeks as a result if they are guilty of the original high tackle charge??.

The NRL need to be very clear when adding additional weeks to any suspension as a result of any injury sustained in my view

So the day after the judiciary hearing was a good time was it? Making it a public statement via media release is the best way to communicate with the NRL is it? Does it accomplish anything other than keep the heat in the matter?

I think the Knights have shown significant restraint to this point not to publicise the matter and give the powers that be time to let due process run it?s course. I think they have been highly accommodating to not pass comment on matters until after this hearing.

Re their principle points ?

1) I can?t agree with them that others involved in the tackle should have also been dealt with by the judiciary ? there is no charge they can be accused of or held accountable for in the rules as they currently stand. For mine, Mclean's involvement was the principle cause of the tackle resulting in Mackinnon ending up on his head. It is the ?cause? ? everything that occurs after that is the ?effect? (i.e. Alex looking to protect himself by ducking his head, the weight of the Bromwich boys compressing on his head and torso, etc.)
2) The fact that Alex played last week was an issue for me and I agree with their position on this, although he had the right to appeal and request to play, he was charged with an offence (contrary to what some people are saying) and there was a very strong likelihood he would be serving a suspension would have seen it prudent for the league to deny his request. I don?t blame the Storm in this instance because the right to request this is within the system but I do consider it poor judgement
3) As far as consistency goes, the NRL are continually making a rod for their own backs by trying to make rules on the run to suit the mood of the moment. In this instance I think they probably came up with the best compromise they could given all of the historical precedence they have established?the complaint I think is rightly directed at the errors of the past more so than the decision in this case.

On my last point I was less inclined to see this because I believed this tackle(with the emotion taken out of it) was worth 1-2 weeks but then I read the posts by Gronkathon re the judiciary trying to deliver consistency on additional weeks for consideration of the injury caused and I can see how a 7 week suspension is probably as ?consistent? as it was going to get, knowing that no ruling was going to have full consensus.

You should go to Perth and give him an attitude adjustment. He obviously hasn't travelled the world

Those Melbourne lawyer quotes are deplorable and unnecessary.

Did the blame placed on McKinnon go unchallenged?

ITT: Lawyers are arseholes. Well, imagine that? Storm tell them to get McLean off, they do whatever they think is necessary. It's amazing how any bullshit lawyer defense can be attributed to the Storm. The Storm are not the lawyers ffs. There are many reasons to hate us, but this is not one of them.

Every club would have done the same. Any fan that denies that is kidding themselves.

Wish Alex all the best and I am damn sure McLean feels horrible over this. I just hope both of these young guys make the best out of a horrid situation and do what is best for themselves.

I will say this if I was McLean I would find it very very hard to come back to the game.

And Alex I just pray his path is a easy one and that he can at the very least get some quality of life.

Anyone discussing anything else at this point is just a merkin.

The NRL have proven again that they're gutless merkins who are happy for people to risk serious injury.

This round has been full of dangerous lifting tackles and the refs haven't given a shit.

What a f**king disgrace.
