St George Illawarra Dragons assistant coach Ben Hornby has joined World All Stars Nene Macdonald and Paul Vaughan as well as Indigenous All Star Joel Thompson in Newcastle this week.

Hornby will serve as an assistant coach to World All Stars coach Mal Meninga and was excited for the opportunity to work alongside the Kangaroos mentor.

Hornby also offered his thoughts on the All Stars concept and its importance on the rugby league calendar.

Such a flawed concept. The selection process is ludicrous and the resulting "World All Stars" team was anything but a team of stars. Better for the indigenous team to be playing a rugby style Barbarians team or Maoris etc.
Terrible game of footy to watch.

Yeah, agree. You could see from the selected teams who was going to win.

Totally agree and the use of the name World Allstars is an insult to the game & fans. Better off calling them the "Who's availables" Ditch the concept or let them play against a combined Polynesian side. Move on......next!

Sadly, similar to the Red V. Hopefully we will see a difference in our trials.
I can't help but think Mal asked Benny to run the squad and show them what he has learned from Mc Fookknuckle.
If so, Benny did an awesome job of replicating Mary's game plan.
The similarity was staggering.
