Perkins stroked the three at a decent clip though. Around the same as Horry. He was actually more hyped up than Jordan coming out of North Carolina.

Definately had some of the coolest hair styles in NBA history.

Plus 15,300 career points and 7,600 career rebounds is nothing to be sneezed at.

best defensive player of all time in IMO

every time the pistons played the bulls (back in the 80s-90s) they always stuck rodman on jordan because he was one of the only players who could take him one on one.

Dumars guarded Jordan most of the time. Rodman usually guarded Pippen. Once in a while in late game situations Rodman would guard Jordan.

And as Charlie Saab said no one could stop Jordan 1 on 1. I think in their primes it would have been interesting to see Pippen guard Jordan if they weren't on the same team.

I wouldn't say that. Despite being "only" the 3rd pick in the draft, there was a buzz about Jordan even beofre he started playing in the NBA. The summer before their rookie year, Jordan and Perkins were on the 84 Olymic team, and Jordan got for more hype than Perkins.

Fair call. Jordan was third pick, Perkins fourth.

Perkins was definitely more hyped during the 1982 Tar Heels NCAA run though, from what I've read anyway.

dumars was a shooting gaurd, just like jordan. rodman was a power foward.

dumars was an excellent defender, but jordan was taller, and the kid had style.

I personally never liked micheal jordan, but i am the first to admit that he could take any player back to their mamas house if and when he wanted to.

rodman was never intimidated over this where others were.

when rodman went to the spurs, (yes he was considered the black sheep, but) the guy only scored like 2 maybe 4 points a game. he averaged around 17-19 rebounds a game (on a consistent basis). the guy has the best record (or last i checked he did) in offensive and defensive rebounds per game. im sure his steals and blocks were pretty much up there too.

but don't quote me on these stats. this is all coming from my peanut i call a brain...

please excuse me if this thread has been done before...

I just wanted to know who everybody's all time favourite player is and why?

My Favourite player is Larry Bird.

Along side with magic Johnson, one of the best passers/playmakers/ shooters/defenders in NBA history. as the main man for the Celtics(back in the 70s-80s), had won three NBA titles and 10 Atlantic Division crowns. stayed consistent throuhgout his career, and was that confident, he would walk up to oponent's benches before games and predict 40pt performances for himself. he was also known to practise shooting three pointers with his eyes closed.

i remember one game against the pistons, not sure what year, boston was down by two points with a couple of seconds left in the game. they had the ball and called a time out. during the time out, larry bird walked up to the pistons team and basically said "forget all your strategies, i will be getting the ball and i will shoot a three and sink it to win the game".

so the players get back on the court and what happens? Bird receives the pass, takes it down the right side of the court and with two players in his face (tony dumars and dennis rodman if i recall) takes the three and sinks it off the backboard to win the game.

one of the best games ive seen in my life.
tell me if jordan ever did that ;-)

all jokes aside, can anyone name a classic moment form anyone in any era.

1. rodman blocking one of ewings power dunks back in the early nineties when he was still with detroit.

2. jordan - against the lakers when he practically jumped from the free throw line for a power dunk (one handed with the tongue out of course) then seeing vlade divac in his face and pulling away for a lay up to jis left. im sure there were 2 other lakers players going up for the pounce, but he played them all like puppets.

3. shaqs rookie year when he broke the ring at pheonix. not only did he break the ring, he totaled the whole mechanism. it wasnt the board that smahed, it was the actual arm that was holding the board which gave way on the babboon...

4. Dominique wilkins' double handed wind-mill dunk in the slam dunk contest back in the 80s against jordan (wilkins won that one too). also remembering spud webb's classic performance too.

i can think of heaps more...

1. Rodman... blocking a scottie pippen layup in 88/89
2. Jordan....too many things. PErhaps the no look shot vs the mavs in 92/93 at mavs
3. Isiah...25 points in the 3rd 1/4 of the 88 finals of game 6
4. Shaq...destroying the backboard in NJ in his rookie yr. More destructive than the Phoenix one. Plus the triple double he had vs NJ in 93/94. 24 points, 28 boards, 15 blocks...now thats a triple double!

One of those Shaq hoop breakings was rigged. I remember reading it in his book, it was a nationally televised game so they significantly weakened it and told him beforehand he would break it. I'm pretty sure one was legitimate though.

Did the game get abandoned? When he broke the backboard? Would have taken a while to repair id imagine.
