Week I in the 2005 AMNRL season starts this staurday. Here is your line-up.

Week 1 - 5/21/05

  • New Jersey Sharks @ Washington Slayers

  • Glen Mills Bulls @ Northern Raiders
    TBD at Andrews Field

  • New York Knights @ Connecticut Wildcats
    TBD at Andrews Field
My predictions are the following;

Washington Slayers over the New Jersey Sharks
Philadelphia Fight over Delaware Valley Mantarays
Glen Mills Bulls over Northern Raiders
Connecticut Wildcats over New Yorks Knights

Will be a great day of rugby league at Andrews Field in Connecticut.

I don't know who I go for in the AMRNL.

Most likely the Slayers.

But to form an opinion you need more background information on each team.

It almost feels like the wrong thing to do (me being a Newcastle Knights fan), but I go for the New Jersey Sharks in the AMNRL.
They have gone about building a team by bringing in a qualified coach from Australia to teach Americans the skills needed, and at least three of their players have come to Australia to spend time with good country teams to learn the game.
Other sides bring in quality players etc, but the Sharks try to win by developing the American guys they have. I like that.

Go you Slayers!!!

Though the only reason I lean to them at all is for the sister partnership with the Dragons. Though like Diehard said, more info is needed to make a more informed choice - till then UP THE SLAYERS!!!!

The slayers are a side organised by a guy who works as a driver for the ambassador at the NZ embassy in Washington.
My understanding is that it is largely ex-pat kiwis and some Americans.

I saw the Wildcats train last night and I can tell you that player/coach Daniel Webster has the boy's focused. He is going to do wonders teaching the young guy's the game. The Cats will have a great balance of foreign players, American boys and young future stars in the AMNRL. Look out for Curtis!!

My footy tips are as follows
Bulls by 2
Cats by 4
Fight by plenty
Slayers by 10

The last 2 picks are done blind

The League final will be Knights VS. Raiders
Both weren't picked this week as The knights are short handed this weekend.Half the knights backline are playing in the semi-finals this weekend in the rugby superleague & they're still awaiting 2 foreign players. That said I believe there will be over 20 players suited up this weekend for the Knights. The Raiders are my pick this year. Ben Kelly has recruited well up there & once they get it all together they will be very tough. This week however I think they'll come up short against a typically well drilled Bulls team.

Looser;

Do me a favor and pinch yourself. Are you up yet from your dream? Yes the Raiders and Knights are going to be better teams this year then they were last. Ben Kelly has brought in allot of talent, many of them I hear played for the Cooggee Dolphins. Also the Knights have improved their team greatly from last year.

However, the final will be a repeat of the 2004 championship between the Bulls and the Wildcats. The Bulls have added 4 international players to a team that was already a powerhouse. Then the Wildcats went out and got Webster and other international players.

The team that will surprise everyone I believe will be the Philadelphia Fights. Here is my prediction for the 2005 AMNRL season.

Bulls win the championship again.

Wildcats fall short again, but have a stellar 2005 season

Raiders finish 3rd

Knights 4th

Fight 5th

Sharks 6th

Slayers 7th

Delaware 8th

Could one of the American lads please write us out a little summary of each AMNRL team.

When did they start, their history, their results, players, background information on the team,

I'd appreciate it! I can't find any information anywhere.

The Bulls no doubt will be tough. Nuiy as usual will have them well drilled & with the guys from overseas they should be confident & one of the favorites. I think all teams in the Lincoln Conference are up for the task of winning it all. I would be more concerned with the Raiders if I was a Bull, more so than the Cats. I think after this weekend we'll all know who looks like the team to beat as all 4 teams are playing in CT & we can size one another up.

I want to see how well the coogee boys play with the rest of the Raiders. They'll all have played together for a number of years & know each others game well, I'll be watching them involving the rest & how well they do it. I think the Bulls are lucky getting them early in the season, they wont want to miss out on this opportunity.

If the Knights get up a& beat the Cats or come close they'll look strong as they will be missing several top shelf starters for this weekend.

Yes you are right the Bulls are lucky to draw the Raiders 1st. However you will only see 2 of the Bulls 4 internationals. You also have to remember the Bulls have Marcus, E-Dog, Woody, Becker, Cory, Matt all Tomahawk players. Then add the banch players they have, and they are going to be tuff. I am not making the trip tomorrow do to prior commitments but it will be a great day of footy.

Heard the Raiders beat the Bulls.
It is good that the Raiders might be true contenders for the title this year - but I'm not sure I'm happy that they have up to 9 Aussies in the side. In future years there should be a limit on how many 'imports' teams can use.

Raiders dont have 9 Aussie imports, more like 5. Wildcats Beat a much impoved Knights 42-18. Game was very phyisical, and looked closer than the score reflects.

The Knights were happy with there hit out with the Cats.
They had 4 guys playing their first game of league & expect
5 starters back for the next game against the Bulls
