I think most of us saw this coming when we saw the footage and then old Rumpole and his “ desperate” defence.
Amone didn’t give evidence because he can’t lie to the court. The first question the prosecution would have asked is obviously where he was. And where’s his alibi? If he wasn’t on the roof where was he? Can he prove he was somewhere else? They can track his phone, they can question witnesses, check road cameras. All kinds of tech to see if he was telling the truth.
Basically, he’s cashed in his 25% full discount he would have got on a plea of guilty. Now he’s facing full freight.
And it was no “vanilla “ assualt. It was aggravated and not very nice.
It was extremely dangerous and roofie could have been killed. Then it’s manslaughter or worse.
He can appeal all grounds ( magistrate erred) or on severity, after the penalty is handed down ( too harsh).
I think he will go inside. Anyone found guilty of this should be locked up. She can’t send a message to people that this is Ok and the consequences aren’t severe.
Otherwise, the prosecution will probably appeal.
It was a high tech defence but she seems to have got him on the id of his clothes. Same clothes. He didn’t think to get changed!
Anyway, I think we all saw it coming. I don’t feel anything for him. He’s another mug, you wouldn’t want him living near you or anything like that.
The old man could have called the Ranger.
On our street, no one would have cared. Probably just offer the roofies a cold drink.
But these pricks want to own the neighbourhood.
Now Junior and the old man can look forward to a suing they will never forget. Pain, injuries, suffering etc. May even have to sell the house.
And mark my words, they will whinge on about being the victims.
Should he play NRL again? No.
And they should probably compensate the club for this bullshit too.
I hope the youngster does his time and gets a real job and turns his life around. I hope he learns from this and can move forward. Bitter lesson.
