He threatened someone and chased them correct ? He didn't actually physically assault them. Mostly acted violently.
How long was Matt Lodge suspended for his brutal, unprovoked attack ?

No, he did a lot more than chase someone, roofie only escaped being bashed with a hammer because he jumped off a roof.

Smashed his hands and ribs. Will never be the same.

There is no real justice in the criminal justice system.

I would think application of the laws, making appropriate and proper decisions around sentences is a rather simple task.

Magistrates and Judges have shown time and time again they are not very good and often out of step with what society would expect.

Its just the way it is.

In this case, based on legal precedents in regards to sentencing, I just can’t see him being sentenced to full time imprisonment. Case Law just doesn’t allow for it. If he is given a full time custodial sentence it would be overturned on appeal.

The Presiding Magistrate will be all high and mighty, threaten all kinds of punishments before hitting him with a feather duster. Mark my words, let’s have another conversation after his sentence is handed down.

As I suggested dealt with other than full time imprisonment.

Not saying it’s right, but the sentence handed down was so predictable.

Hopefully he learns from his mistake.

Dragons young gun Junior Amone won’t go to jail despite being found guilty of a hammer attack. But he still faces sanctions from the NRL and Dragons.

St George Illawarra and the NRL have started urgent discussions to determine the “appropriate” action against rising Dragons star Junior Amone, found guilty of a vicious hammer attack.
Amone avoided prison on Monday after being found guilty of arming himself with a hammer and chasing a tradesman off a roof during a heated dispute.
The 21-year-old was sentenced to a two-year Intensive Corrections Order, which is a term of imprisonment to be served in the community.
Amone’s father, Talatau, was sentenced for two-and-a-half years in jail with a non-parole period of 12 months.
An NRL spokesman said: “The NRL Integrity Unit will now review the proceedings in the Wollongong Local Court following the sentencing of Dragons player, Junior Talatau Amone.”
There is little doubt the NRL will impose heavy sanctions on Amone, most likely a hefty suspension and fine.
The possibility of being deregistered could also be discussed for Amone, who still has two years remaining on his Dragons contract.
St George Illawarra released a statement moments after Amone was sentenced which read: “The Dragons acknowledge the two-year Intensive Corrections Order that was handed down to player Talatau Amone today.
“The club will now work closely with the NRL Integrity Unit to determine the appropriate next steps. An update will be provided once this process has been completed.”

Struth - the court/law has done it's job
He also deserves to lose his job as he has brought the club and the game into disrepute. If he has any metal he will serve his suspension, knuckle down, get another chance and prove his worth. (Not with SGI)

But the lynch mob mentality - I don't get.

Because of his profile he may of received some leniency for no other reason than the fact that, unlike some anonymous "Fred" everyone knows.
The additional public shame will either make him or break him.
He is damn lucky he didn't kill anyone but - "HE DIDN'T KILL ANYONE"

He came close enough.

He’s just lucky.

Roofie was terrified jumping for his life so he wouldn’t get bashed in the head with a hammer and killed.

Maybe he wanted a brain injury?

Doesn’t need an eye?

Fractured skull?

Quadriplegic?

Paraplegic?

Vegetable?

Jaw broken up?

Hands up who wants the Amones and their ‘ken attitude living next door?

I’m not having a go at you, I love your posts but these guys are really dangerous.

I’m surprised the Prosecution are taking so long to appeal.

They should have left the court and made straight for the registry.

do you know the tradies? Or been involved in a similar incident?

I only ask because I don’t understand the strength of your position, the number of posts about it, on another clubs forum. Not picking a fight here, but there are still so many unknowns to me. Sure, he is guilty, has been sentenced, and we expect further action from the nrl or club. I’m happy for all this, and won’t be upset even if we punt him, but you seem much more passionate?

I’d rather be left exposed than appear weak and confused in a case like this.

He hasn’t stolen a lolly.

He’s almost killed someone.

Harden up SGI.
For someone who posts so much about law, court procedures, police responsibilities, magistrates findings etc I thought you would be a fan of due process.
Is it a tigers thing that you would rather put your club at risk than some punters perception?

Amone has clearly embarrassed tue Dragons, the NRL, himself and his family.

If as a community we believe in rehabilitation and giving offenders a second chance, de-registering Amone is not an option.

I can see the NRL suspending him for up to half a season and fining him.

Anything more would be disproportionate to the sentence he received from the Court.

He has a second chance. He's not in prison. But we don't have to emply him. He can go and get a job with someone else. Preferably somewhere he can learn some humility.

I don’t have a tile on this roof, just expressing my opinion, which I have been since the fracas began.

A lot of people seem to agree with my general sentiments.

The Club and NRL are probably awaiting legal advice prior to making their decision as to penalty/or termination.

Absolutely. If he's given a free ride with the Dragons then he's essentially lost nothing - and will learn nothing. The best thing for him as a human being is to lose his Dragons contract and, in all honesty, get well away from Wollongong and his family. Do some penance. Start again elsewhere.

A suspension of any kind is a horrendous result for this club. We have to keep his contract on the books (of a middling player at best) and are unable to properly move on and explore a new generation or sign a new player. Just cut him. Best for all concerned
