Happy to be corrected if any of this is proven wrong.

He was found guilty.
He mocked the legal system by protesting it wasn't him.
He was sentenced ( custodial or home ).
He apparently has shown no remorse.

I don't care what the NRL think, we as a club should sack him immediately.

I doubt he will have to wear a tracking device. He got a slap on the wrist. Will be allowed to travel interstate and overseas. NRL will stand him down for some games but it would be better for us to fine him. He has a few brothers in our system.

Simple
Remove him in every way shape and form
from St. George.
If he get picked up by someone else -
fair enough.
Use him as example - these idiots won’t listen
You can’t have NRL players roaming around town making up their own rules.
There is always another ready player ready to rise.
They are not special.
They are however expendable.

IMO he would be very silly to lodge an appeal as that could mean the DPP will appeal his sentence as not been harsh enough and ask for jail, time.

I agree, but the ODPP can appeal anyway.

I think it’s a judgment that does not reflect community expectations for these types of offences.

I think they’ve almost got an obligation or legal duty to have a bloody go. They may not be successful, but ffs, they are supposed to representing us.

What kind of message is this to send to people?

The investigating cops will be furious and rightly so.

I am not a cop person, but there are limits.

This is not justice.

It matches my expectations based on previous similar convictions.
As I stated previously the chance of jail time based on the same historical charge was less than 2%.
I hope we sack him but a prison sentence was only ever a very small possibility.

Doesn’t pass the Pub Test……ditch the flog!

Yep. It really is simple.

Putting aside the legal jargon for the minute, what have we achieved as a Club with the JDB case, BBQ gate, and now the Hammer gate ?

I believe in rehabilitation and a fair go. I don't believe in a free pass. He can resume his career when he has done his time. He's young and has a chance to make amends.

Well done on the call as a practical matter. I salute you.

Albeit technically, he has been sentenced to a term of Imprisonment under section 7.

I formed the belief the conduct was too heinous to escape the law’s harshest of punishments. I saw it at the upper end.

I am concerned that with all the publicity this case has generated, that some impressionable young people will get the wrong message about what is right and what is wrong.

I understand the response of the majority of forum members.

But I ask you all, if the legal system handed down such a sentence, what gives the NRL and the club the right to impose a greater sentence ?

The only variable the legal system imposed was the terms of penalty. He won't be incarcerated. He is still guilty of the crime. Losing your job isn't a greater sentence. It's at the discretion of the employer.
