you are kidding yourself . he'd struggle to get a run in souths team

your idea is sh*t as well. besides the fact that theres only one nz'er good enough to make an origin team, if they started to play origin, most of qld (and some of nsw) would not care about it anymore. it would ruin it. im sick of this idea being brought up because its just never going to happen. ever.

nz'ers should work on not getting flogged by the kangaroos every year before they even start to think about thinking of playing origin

An Invitational player system should be proposed for SOO. NSW and Queensland should be allowed to draft one marquee player into their squad for each SOO series. The winner of the previous series will have first pick.

Each Invitational player will be picked after both sides have announced their squads. The only stipulations will be that the player cannot be from either SOO catchment area (So NSW could not pick a Queensland-eligible player & vice versa) and selection will not affect International eligibilty.

I think this proposal will add a lot of extra excitement to Origin. Imagine SBW lining up for NSW and Benji Marshall lining up for Queensland. Every player dreams of playing Origin football, this proposal will make dreams come true.

I'm a Kiwi and I don't think the concept of Origin is too hard to understand. It's about NSW and Qld and that's where is starts and ends. Kiwis, the British or special invitationals or anything else has no place in Origin. As a Kiwi that doesn't bother me, I can enjoy what is a great sporting contest without having to have some of my own involved. The concept isn't broken so would we stop trying to fix it.

Some people just can't handle revolutionary ideas.

Kiwis love Origin just as much as Aussies. Origin is held in such high regard. And let's face it, it is the pinnacle.

You can't deny players their dreams, their aspirations. Origin is not just for NSW & Queensland, it's for everyone.

What stupid statements. Yes we love Origin on this side of the ditch but everything that makes Origin great has been built on a foundation of rivalry between NSW and Qld. Take that away and the contest becomes bland. Origin is an exclusive club so deal with it.

I think the Tri Series comp that Super League had should indicate that Kiwis should NEVER be involved in anything to do with Origin. The whole series was a flop.

salivor agree 100%

Im a kiwi and look forward to origin every year. Origin is a tradition, don't mess with something that aint broke.

I got goosebumps when they played the mock commentary when the NSW team of the century was announced before the game it was amazing, you don't have to be from NSW or QLD to appreciate SOO and as a kiwi there doesn't need to be kiwi's in the teams it just defeats the purpose and decades old traditions.

I also disagree with this idea. I don't see why NZ can't have an origin. Start off having it as just the one-off game, then depending on it's success, go to a 3 game series at some point. Have theirs on the exact same night (to minimise club v 'country' type controversies), if theirs kicks off at 7:30 or so local time, Aussies and Kiwis get to watch both.

Anyways, another reason i don't like this invitational idea is because we'll start seeing the sort of garbage where both states start 'bidding' for Asotasi or SBW or someone.
