An Illustration of Telegraph Journalistic Ethics at work...

I was listening to the Big Sports Breakfast this morning and Josh Massoud appeared in his regular Friday slot.

TK repeated the headline from a Massoud story in todays paper which was "The Day 20 Years of Friendship Froze over" and TK said "Is this a beat-up or is it Fair Dinkum, are they no longer mates?"

Massoud responded with nervous laughter and said "thats a difficult question to answer..."

NO ITS NOT.

Either the story is true and they are having their friendship tested or it is a beat-up. As usual. I just can't believe he effectively admitted this on the air.

He then said that if "Ricky Stuart denied their friendship was tested he would be lying."

Really? This means the process of checking the story goes as follows:

A) Massoud has a theory
B) Massoud prints his theory which is based on his own assumptions/speculation and prints it as fact
C) Massoud says that if the subject denies the story that the denial is a lie...and that is his justification for a feature story.

If he is going to express "facts", learn to verify.

If its his opinion that their relationship is strained, identify it as opinion or conjecture.

Even though its a non-story, it is an illustration of the lack of credibility of the Tele... shame that it has the most league coverage of the major papers.

It is just a normal piece to sell newspapers and have people talking about it on a forum like this...

Mission accomplished...

Well.....gotta fill up the pages somehow. We are down to 4 teams so the other 12 in the comp aren't really worth a mention.

Is it anything like the one in the herald....????

You know the one about the feud between Stuart and Bellamy by Roy Masters....

Roy Masters in todays SMH:
http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/new...1222217430985.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1

He didn't sugarcoat his words, a fact acknowledged by Stuart later when he said: "I could feel the spray coming through the phone."
They have not spoken since, though Stuart did send Bellamy a text on the eve of the last round, wishing him well in the minor premiership game against South Sydney.
Bellamy's response was curt.

an aside related to the SMH article, do Sharks fans who moan about Gus' bias just completely ignore the weekly blatant attempts by Stuart to disadvantage teams opposing the Sharks with his articles and media comments? Should a current coach even have a newspaper column?

Hagan and Bennett also wrote columns

And Brian Smith.

Stuart last night said that he and Bellamy were great mates from the Raiders days, and they still were pretty thick (as in close, not as in Bronco).
