I've been thinking about posting this for a while and with Round 1 just over 2 weeks away I thought I'd raise a "dummy" market on who willl follow Weller Hauraki [#697] in the clubs illustrious firstgrade list,

so without further ado he's Stags Market for Eels play #698.

Etu Uasele 6/1
Taulima Tautai 10/1
Tony Williams 18/1
Matt Raftery 25/1
Kris Keating 4/1
Matt Keating 2/1 [favourite]
Brendon Oake 10/1
Joe Gulavao 5/2
Tim mannah 15/1
Brod Wright 26/1

thisa is likely to change after Saturday night so I'll reasses it again on about Monday ;-)

I reckon you could have a tie on your hands here. Surely Matt Keating and Joe Galuvao would both be equal favourites to grab bench spots in Round 1.

Assuming we continue to play with a reserve dummy half option on the bench, Keating is the shoe in there. And with Wagon suspended, Robinson injured, and Mateo playing in the No 6 jersey rather than at lock, we've got a spare spot for an extra backrower and that man would have to be Galuvao.

assuming both Keats and Joey G get a bench spot, I would imagine that the 698 would go to the who's jumper would be closer to the starting line up.

that's why i believe Keats should be favourite and will probably wear 14.

I don't normally take the short odds but M Keating looks to be a special. With PJ gorrrrne someone has to take that spot and he looks the standout choice.

i think joe gulav........

i really don't know if we will play a rake off the bench with mateo probably playing a second receiver role. i think finch may shift to hooker when piggy needs a break.

You think Etu is more likely to get a wing spot then Talima Tautai?

I actually agree with that by the way.

Can someone give me some info on Raftery ? I know he came from Cronulla and is a centre.

who would shift to halfback? i think matt keating would come on say the 30th minute and play the rest of the game at dummy half with riddell returning as a 2nd rower, Or piggy plays the first 55 60 minutes and keating comes on for the last bit of the 2nd half.

i was thinking more along the lines of when tim smith is fit as well.

smith and finch playing halves, when piggy has a breather, finch to hooker and fileti at pivot.

i may be way off but i just think with more restrictions on interchange having an extra forward will be more valuable on the bench than a specialist rake.

Sharks fans rate him..

he's a tall strapping centre/winger who knows his way to the try line.

I thought he had a great game against Penrith...until I realised the player I was looking at was actually Matt Keating...Matt Keating will be the new boy...He'll get a run in the firsts ahead of Joe Gaulavo..that is in my opinion..
I thought both Keatings looked the goods against Penrith. I was most impressed...

I think after watching Hage's interview with H on PTV I'm more than convinced that Matt Keating will be eel #698, providing he gets through Saturday night and there are no other injuries.

It is an absolute certainty eela. I'll have my house on the 2/1 and injury is the only thing that will stop me.

The bad news is if I win I will owe the bank 3 times as much.

I reckon Kris Keating may play ahead of Joe as well.

If Tim is out ... our halves will be Finch and Mateo. If either of them cop an injury we would be looking at Matt Keating Lowrie or Wagon to 5/8.

Hages may be tempted to go with both brothers on the bench with Junior and Josh.

Or even go with Kris ahead of Matt - in that he could play 5/8 or hooker.

It is easy - if the players make their debut off the bench than player #698 will be whoever takes the field first.

Well that would be interesting.

With Riddell keen to play more minutes Keating may not take to the field until after half time.

Also, Hagan could go with Kris Keating on the bench. If he doesn't pick Joel Reddy then Keating and Galuvao are out of it. I can't see us not having #698 play in round 1. But I think we should have a market on the first player to come in from the NYC and play under the new replacement rule. What happens if someone is knocked out in the first five minutes and we get that free replacement? We could have a dark horse.
