Exactly my point. Tahu wasn't exactly a great reader in defence, but he was still a worthy player in the grand final side.

The things carney is getting wrong are much easier to fix in my opinion, it might take 2 months of constantly going through the tapes, setting up training drills, but when a guys willing to tackle like him, and seems determined to learn, I don't see why its not possible.

I hope your right, I hope it can be fixed, and fixed quickly enough for us to get some benefit out of the improvements before he leaves. It was always going to take him time to adjust, that was one of the major drawbacks of signing a player from another league to a one year deal.

See what I did there? I rated a players performances based on one single game in adverse conditions and demanded a complete reshuffle to the squad to compensate for one problem that could probably be weeded out through hard specialist training.

Don't do it. Don't demand blokes getting dropped because they missed a few tackles. Don't demand blokes getting dropped because they don't bust the line enough. Don't think blokes should get dropped because they get found out in certain areas of their game.

Everyone has a weakness, and everyone has a bad game. Even Johns had an ordinary kicking game today. A reoccuring theme is not 3 games in a row. If your going to demand players get dropped, at least have good reasons why the back up would do so much better. Everyone aside from the greats like Johns and Beds have flaws in their game, learn to be patient and realise the difference between costing us week after week and being a mere 'room for improvement'.

Carney as I understand has not been playing league that long and we do not know what he was taught in ESL. The fact is, when the pressure is on, players go to their natural instincts and play to what they are used to. It will be up to Hagan to correct this with plenty of defensive drills to ensure he has trust with his inside defender so that this becomes his natural instinct.

Overrall Carney is in the top 2 wingers in the club and his workload in attack is second to none and his overall game should only get better.

Confidence kids....he wil get better, just needs to learn to move sideways and jog backwards. Remember he is Irish, so he probally think he's doing the right thing by turning his back on attacking players and running in front of them. Other then that i think he's playing well.

He will get there, though Midley needs to take some of the blame.

If Carmont & Quinn can get it right (especially after some of their performances last year) it proves that practice makes perfect.

Carmont and Quinn have been working at it since 04. Quinn significantly longer by himself, sure they've got it now, but how long did it take. I doubt Carney will turn his game around significantly before he's gone to the Gold Coast.

Do they include his points while playing for Australia this year along with his total points, or is it just points scored for your club?

They are premiership points. He is expected to reach the milestone this year, barring injury.

Re:Carney's defence. It's worth pointing out that ESL is played a bit differently. There seems to be a lot more focus on the middle two thirds of the field over there. As a result, the defence tightens, and it becomes a bit more of a slog. Why this is the case is unclear. It could be that the conditions (slippery ball, slippery grass etc) make it risky to run close to the sidelines, or perhaps it's a lack of suitable playmakers with expansive games. Perhaps it's the way they are coached. In any case, Carney has a few things to work on. He performs well with the ball, no question. Hopefully someone has pointed out to him the disadvantages of running backwards... it's not a good look, and if teams didn't realise he had a weakness prior to this round, they do now.

I think the conditions are usually the blame for this "slog" of a game.

If I had 5c for every try in ESL that was scored by the "hooker" from 20+ out, I would be a millionaire. I do think however they may do this type of play as the English forwards are alot bigger and dont seem to be as athletic as they are in AUS.

In the ESL you don't have lateral plays at all. Everything is forwards, forwards, forwards, quick play the ball and dart through the line to score. Maybe that is why Carney is struggling, but he certainly has to pick up his game or it could cost us dearly very soon.

Carney's strike rate wouldn't be all that far behind Tahus, although a miniscule sample size.

Tahu's strike rate was over 80%, Carney has scored what? Between 4-6 tries in 10 games? So no, it wouldn't be close.
