it was always a risk
i rate Walker highly, defencively he is pretty poor but if he could just iron out his off feild behaviour he might be something decent... a shame to waste such talent

This really is a shame to see a player with the talent that this bloke has go to waste - I hope Manly do however assist him in whatever way they can and that he is able to sort himself out!

Well at least we know it wasn't performance enhancing...cause let's face it, his attack was fair, his defence was atrocious and his kicking was ordinary as well...

Oh know, does that Mullane back to 5/8? The shame.

Walker fails drug test
September 24, 2004

The NRL and Manly today confirmed former rugby international fullback Andrew Walker had tested positive for cocaine.

The NRL said Walker had returned the positive result following an Australian Sports Drug Agency (ASDA) test this season.

Walker is yet to have the B sample for the test confirmed but the NRL said he did not dispute the positive result.

The 30-year-old, who returned to rugby league this season after a stint in rugby union, faces a ban of up to two years from the NRL's Drugs Tribunal.

However, he has informed the NRL of his intention to retire.

"People must understand that we cannot comment on any further details of the case at this stage," NRL chief executive David Gallop said today.

"This is a sad individual circumstance but also a reflection of the NRL's ongoing commitment to the most rigorous testing program in Australian sport."

That's the real question - what's more disappointing?

The fact he's doing cocaine despite his family and age and responsibility?
or
the fact he never delivered on his footballing ability...

If you're a fair dinkum fan it has to be option one.

This has more implications for Walker and his family than it does for Manly - don't lose sight of that.

No one can do anything for Walker, he has to take ownership. The Dragons, Roosters & Brumbies tried and failed.

A talented player who never reached his potential. Yep, what a waste.
